Virgin Media Discussion Thread

Yes. I've been mis sold my current contract. They are absolutely clueless and have no internal mechanism to fix the problem.

My Big Kahuna contract ended several months ago I called to get broadband and phone only.

What happened was:
I accepted a contract of £36 per month over the phone.
When the contract came in the post it actually said £45 per month.
I called them up and the guy said he can get me the same package for £30 per month instead. I accepted again.
This time they didn't even bother sending a contract in the post because they knew I'd notice the discrepancy, and they've been charging me £48 per month.

I've just realised there is no point stressing about Virgin Media. The UK's CATV network has potential, unfortunately it's just run by clinically retarded people.

Just like the time that retarded woman on the phone refused to give me a new modem because she was jealous my mum had 802.11n WiFi.

i thought the same thing.

the guys on the phone are ******* terrible.

they will lie through their teeth in order for you to sign a new 12 month contract. they must be on commission or have targets .

i'm on big kahuna. phones up and said i want broadband only. they said no go without me signing up to a new 12 month contract which i don't want.

they then sid i can apply X bonus to X package so it's cheaper. I enquired about line rental and they said it was included which I know is BS.

so i cancelled. hoping to get a call from retentions where i will explain to them i want broadband only and no contract for x amount otherwise cut me off.

always get quotes emailed or posted to you. Only way I could make it workout cheaper (yearly cost) was a new contract as a new customer. Dropping my bb from 150 to 100 but that's not much of a fuss in all honesty.

How do you go about paying phone line off in one go, can you just call them?

New customer who want to sign up on Mates Rate (I get staff discount as I work for VM), send me an email: dean_7188 at hotmail . co . uk

Hi dean0, any chance you would be able to give a rough run down of what the mates rates discounts are? I'm looking to move into a new place next month and I'm still trying to decide which ISP to go with.

I was currently on 152mb fibre optic with Virgin, been with them for at least 3 years now, never had a problem since they rolled out that dire 200mb VIVID across the UK about a month ago. Phoned up there 'tech team' 3 times, they claim the area and my connection etc... is all fine and working. They offered me 200mb on the phone so I changed the package, was paying £60, now paying £55 that's with the TV: M and Phone line. Main problem I am having is bad rubber banding whilst playing online games, especially Valve games like CSGO, game is unplayable, ping rises and falls every 2-3mins. Also there seems to be deadspots in my house where there never used to be, SuperHub 2ac is awful.

i asked them to email me the quote and they said they couldn't do that.

they could only send me it by post after i have agreed to it.

they also said it's £49.99 a month for broadband only.

new customers get it for £36 a month for 6 months then £42 a month forever. i questioned this and got bs so i told him where to go.

i'll wait for the next call.

Thats shocking, I've noticed they gave me quotes and "kept them on the account", and then the next call they said "oh we cant discuss those with you" and started again. It's an absolute joke. Glad I caught the 100quid signup offer + quidco.

Just rang up retentions.

I have M+ (with TiVo), Normal basic phone (wend free) and 70mb BB (after speed increase)
£51.99 !!!

Offered me same for 42.99
Or same with 100mb BB for 44.99
Or have basic TV and 150mb 40.99 for 6 months then 42.99 after

Said I'd think about it and they would "keep the quote on the system" but reading through last few pages this doesnt happen. Will probably ring up and cancel and wait for the offers :)

edit: forgot to mention i checked price for a new customer and Big Bundle (same TV/phone/100mb BB) it worked out at 34.99 for 6 months then 51.99 (yes same as im paying but better package!) which is avg over the year of £43.49.....and thats including my "£5 loyalty bonus".......motherf......

shame you missed the 100quid credit offer the other day, they seem to have different deals every other day.. last week I saw the top two bundles you could choose to have a samsung tab (a crappy one), then the next day it had gone...

and dont forget quidco if you sign up as a new user. Virgin have never failed to pay out for me (4 times now)

Can you someone please shed some light to why when using SABnzbd/torrents my virgin internet drops out until I reboot the modem? Has anyone seen this before?

I have tried multiple ports in SABnzbd, SSL on/off etc

I have an Asus RT-AC68U as the rouuter, with the SuperHub2 ac working as the modem.
I have exactly the same setup as you and SABnzbd works at full speed and I don't have to restart the modem. I'm using Ipv6 and Shibby Tomato firmware but not sure if that makes a difference to what you're experiencing.

i don't understand how i was quoted more than their official pricing by retentions.

£49.99 for broadband only. it's as if they added £7 a month onto the 200MB package than take it off.

no phone line, no tv. broadband only.

the staff they have working for them are shocking.

£43.25
a month
No Virgin Phone line
12 month contract
£9.99 activation fee applies

how can they quote me £49.99? i questioned it and was told it was because i was unwilling to sign up for a 12 month contract. after i've just came out of a 18 month contract 6 months ago. all i want to do is keep the broadband i have and ditch everything else. i don't see why i need a new contract to do that.

if i was signing a new contract i'd want it for £30 a month not the price on the website for new customers.

I did what you are doing when we moved house. VM is in the GF's name at the old house, we cancelled that and signed up in my name.

A week or so later they called the GF and we were honest and told them why we cancelled. The woman at VM said she could do it cheaper than a new customer etc

She cancelled my new install and just moved the existing account over. She gave us phone line and 100mb broadband for £25.99 a month (including the line rental!).

A few months later we got the 150mb upgrade and a free upgrade to SH2ac!

Just read this in regards to Virgin dropping the payment surcharge from £5 down to 45p http://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.ph...n-direct-debit-payment-handling-fees-45p.html

Notice at the end it says this :
Interestingly the rules also entitle consumers to receive a refund if the charge is deemed to have been excessive and therefore in breach of the rules, although we do not know if this has been tested with an ISP before.

Anyone know how you would go about testing that theory? I would assume it would be best to ask in writing. Thought i'd ask as i was paying the £5 charge for around 8 years :p

Just had a call from Outbound Retentions. Offered me:

Phone M/TV M+/BB 50 All for £32 which I was happy with.

Asked about upgrading my speed as currently on 70M

Phone M/TV M+/BB 100 for £37 so went for that. Checked speed an hour after and already upgraded. Seems to bluff a cancel is the way to go for a decent discount.

They've added a 300/20 addon under the radar. It's called homeworks and is basically a broadband addon that anyone can use as long as they already have a bundle that includes 200mb.

http://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.ph...irgin-media-today-add-home-works-upgrade.html

It's expensive but has 20mb upload and no traffic management.

Edit - unrelated to that, sign ups are open for beta testing things again. Probably the new Tivo http://community.virginmedia.com/t5/News-and-events/Community-trialists-needed/m-p/3068114
