Virgin Media Discussion Thread

Your local router, the cabinet near your house, has too many people connected to it.....oversubscribed UBR, is the name for it, and will probably take weeks for them to do anything about it....and as soon as they increase capacity, your on a countdown until it becomes congested once more...

I don't believe that, mainly due to the fact about a month ago, we had a VERY long extended downtime due to some building contractor up the road, long story short, virgin had to fight to get access to their cable back, and all of my area went without broadband,tv and phone for like 3 weeks i think it was. During that time sky poached a lot of people(tried to poach me but didn't work, and i already noticed he had 87 people on a list already).

So if anything they are severely under-subscribed here, would also explain why they keep offering me deals (even though i have the best service possible with them -.-). But I've rung them up and they are gonna send a engineer around tomorrow to have a look.

Hmmmm...

That 5mbit upload looks awesome how did you guys get that??

Kinda funny that I can download faster than sending files through my own network wifi->stationary etc.

Had my brand new 50mg installed today, everything was going smoothly till the netgear router went crack/bang. No life in it what so ever.....****. Luckly i have a belkin cable router i can use instead. rang virgin and ordered a new one.

What router are you using with the 50Mbs service?

I am using the supplied D-LINK router but removed Virgin Media's firmware and put D-Links own firmware (4.11). This also sorted my wireless out as well; better signal strength and never dropped - not sure if it was a coincidence or not! But definitely much better!

The sooner VM roll out 100Mb/s the better. BT need hurry the hell up with FTTC. I don't want to wait until March!

Anybody know why I get such poor speeds when downloading from PSN?

Currently estimating 40 minutes to download a 259MB patch!

Oddly enough I have noticed my downloads on PSN have becaome a lot slower since they introduced that PSN+ service, you know the monthly subscription tripe.

Could it be those that don't pay the subscription are given limited download bandwidth?

Anyone here upgraded from 20Mb > 50Mb, if so, what are you paying monthly?

I'm tempted to call to see if i can get some kind of deal (not really interested in TV or phone) - but i'm guessing I won't get anywhere :P
