Virgin Media Discussion Thread

Anyone know how much it is to get 50mbit if you're on the VIP package? I think we're paying about £65 or something for V+ & additional box on medium pack, phone line & some calls pack and 20mbit bb.

is it best to phone them to get a deal for XXL BB only? or order via the net?

thinking of moving from o2 due to painful speeds.

Yeah was going to phone them at some point, but thought it was worth seeing roughly what others are paying on the same package.

The cost to upgrade online was something silly like £25 a month.

My Package consists of the following:

Broadband: 50Mb

TV: XL package (With V+ box and additional box)

Telephone: Unlimited

Monthly Cost £61.22

I should also say that the 50Mb broadband isnt one of these pay less for 6 months and then it doubles type things.

When i upgraded to 50Mb i negotiated to have a 12 month package, cant really be doing with those wierd deals...i like to know my monthly outlay.

Hey, need some help.

Current bill:
Telephone Line Rental £11.99
Phone, TV, Broadband Discount £-14.00
Callreject,Call Bar £4.50
T V Size: X L £24.50
Broadband Size :L £25.00
TOTAL = 51.99

When i click the "Upgrade Broadband" option in the my virgin media page, it states I have 2 upgrade options.

Upgrade to Broadband XL for £20 a month
Upgrade to Broadband XXL for £25 a month

Does this mean I will actually be paying less for XL and the same for XXL. For example, if i choose the XL option my bill will look like this instead?

Potential Bill:
Telephone Line Rental £11.99
Phone, TV, Broadband Discount £-14.00
Callreject,Call Bar £4.50
T V Size: X L £24.50
Broadband Size :XL £20.00
TOTAL = 46.99

Hopefully this all makes sense?

Thanks for the info. Did you have 10 or 20mbit before - if so how much difference was it going up to 50?

I had 20Mb before, the cost difference was £2.60 per month.

Speedwise for normal browsing no different at all, downloading is a different beast altogether.

When im not being managed i download at a rock solid 6.00MB/s so i have no complaints at all.

I dont regret moving to 50Mb, simply for convenience more than anything else, also im an impatient bugger and dont like to wait for anything :-)

For christmas I've just ordered my mum (but mainly myself! ;-) ) 50mb (no 100mb in Reading!) and the biggest phone and tv package.

So should be with me around the 15th of January. 5mb upload shouldn't be too far behind either.

Will report back when it arrives! Should be a nice easy transition as we already have 10mb broadband, so we've got the cable in to the house. Not quite sure why they insist on an engineers install as they know this?

I think its because they have to check readings and signal levels.

They are absolutely USELESS.

So they ring me up to arrange installation date (although I already picked one when I placed the order online?)

But tell me as the house already has services these must be cancled before I can go ahead and arrange an installation date. They cannot do this, I need to speak to another department that is not open. Great, so I call back today and cancel.

After getting a lecture about "transfer of responsibility" being the best way to do it. (Well it's not as I would loose £250 worth of savings by being a 'new customer') the moody cow finally sets a cancellation date for the old VM account that my mum holds.

So I ring up to arrange an installation date. However they have NO RECORD of me ever placing an order, despite me having an online order reference. So I've had to go through and RE-DO my order verbally, which has wasted 45 minutes of my life. Oh and another credit check against my name, great.

I PITY the fool that rings up about my first 'online' order asking to set an installation date. Because I will rip them to shreds.

I've been transferred, wait for it, 12 times. And had the line just cut on my 3 times.

All because I want to give them £1,000 over the next 18 months. What an absolute joke.

Looking at getting 50mb... Is there a way I can email someone from customer support/sales? Do they still have support newsgroups?

Had this installed today. Need to get some newsgroup tests done to test the speed. Although I don't fancy waiting up until midnight to try it.

Yes it is the Superhub.

Speedtest.net tests show the below (which I know is a bit erroneous).

Will look forward to actual results once I get a NG account sorted at the weekend.
