Virgin Media Discussion Thread

I will be getting the super hub next week as a freebie(took 10 calls to get one)

So all good now? glad your back :D

I've got a Super Hub. Gonna see how it handles streaming wireless HD content later :)

And everything is spot on! Had a good bit of banter with the engineer aswell.

When I moved into this house it had existing cable but I told the engineer I wanted the modem put into my office (upstairs) and the TV into one of the bedrooms which he was more than happy to do :)

I was a pain in the arse customer as I wanted one thing in every room. Broadband in the office.. TV box in my bedroom and a TV box in the living room. He was more than happy to do it though.

Excellent, thanks guys. :)

Does anyone have a link to the 2 different routers they supply? I understand there is a different router for 10mb/20mb to the 50mb?

when I had virgin for a little while as a student the 10/20MB service (i think) got this router:

such a horrible router.

I'm currently with ADSL24 on C&W LLU getting around 12Meg. Its seemingly completely un monitored / shaped in anyway and I get pretty reasonable pings. Question is, should I swap for Virgin 50mb for 5 quid a month more ?.
Anyone in Colchester area on virgin ? whats it like ?
Also, can anyone tell me, does the dynamic IP assignment only re-assign the IP when the modem connects or does it change randomly over time ?
I had a quick chat with the bird in the chat on the website and asked if they have any limits or traffic shaping etc on the 50mb service she said no, but yet that doesn't seem to be the story people are telling in this forum, whats the real story ?

Without reading through the past few pages, which will take ages, couple of questions:

What areas are getting 100MB first, how much is it and anyone got it?
What's all this new upload thing?

I have just got caught out by Virgin(well kind of). I was looking on my account upgrades to see on the off chance that 100Mb was available. Whilst browsing this i saw that it was offering myself the super home hub for free. As it cost nothing i thought i may aswell have it.

Now when i checked my online bill a few days later there was the cost of the hub(£75) to be added to my next bill, At the time i selected this option it informed me that i would recieve a phonecall from their team to check i was happy to go ahead, now i knew that they were charging for the hub and so i just presumed i was getting it for nothing due to my TV/BB/Phone package. Suffice to say i did not recieve the phonecall to confirm it as they just went ahead and sent it and billed me. Now luckily i have a saved a screenshot showing the cost as 0.00p, but the main problem is you can only sort it out through the complaints department that are only contactable via email!

Just thought i would post it as a heads up for anyone else that may come across it.

Ater going through complaints, i have been told i can keep the hub and they have credited my account for the money. Fairs fair, it was their mistake to start with but they have resolved it well :)

Make your complaint via the retentions department, and point out that your follow up complaint will be in writing to the advertising standards dept for internet ISP's (bearing in mind that VM have been b*tchslapped by them on more than one occasion!) And inform them that unless they are prepared to remove that $75 for your bill you WILL be following this up following legal advise as this is a fraudulent business practise.

See what they can do then, but, remember the poor b*stard that answers the phone is not responsible for VM's behaviour, and if anything should be shown some sympathy because they have to work for them !

EDIT:
oops .... fail on my part to press refresh before replying :o :o

Glad your all sorted .... and yeah, sounds like you might not have been the only one to suffer that problem, and someone realised that they were wide open to legal problems, and best to make the fix very simple and fast.... i only have one question, had you not queried it, would you have still got the refund ??

I still would not want one of these, they have proved time and time again that if it is possible to take a working product, update the firware and turn it into a doorstop !
