Virgin Media Discussion Thread

I knew Virgin hadn't been testing some super speeds with me for free.

I'm running Kaspersky.

I always get these silly speeds when I run the test.

im just saying it could be.. best way to test is try to download some big file from fast ftp or something.. then you'll see the ACTUAL speeds you get.. or try turning it off, doing a test.. getting it back on..

A virgin engineer just swapped out my 50mb modem for a superhub. He said thats what they're gonna start doing now. When people have connection problems that is, who require a visit.

Whats the difference between the two, out of interest? Seems a bit odd to change the modem on the 50mbit service so early.

They would be saving money in the long run by fitting Hubs when a 50Mb modem fails.
It only takes a phone call to upgrade to 100Mb if you have a 400Mb(difference) moden already.

Ive got one of the "Super Hubs" as i have moved house and had 50Mb installed. The enginner told me that its what they are changing to as they are now provided by Netgear it also has a Wireless N router built in so no need for a router like the old modems. Although he did tell me that they are having some problems with these as they are new and havent been fully tested yet. Ive had one problem so far where i lost my connection and when i phoned tech support they said they couldnt connect with the modem and was sending an engineer but its back on now and my speeds and signal levels are back to when it was installed so all seems fine now.

I've got my 50mb and super hub being fitted next week, I took a virgin phone line too. Can someone tell me, does the telephone come in with the rest of the services or do they just take over your existing BT line ? If its the former, do they connect the virgin line into the BT one somehow so all the sockets around the house still work ?

If I remember correctly, they run a second cable (or split it from the box they put on the wall outside) and a new VM phone box is put on the wall. It won't use the old line.

So , if you have a bunch of telephone points around the house do they get connected up to the virgin line ?

Bloody service problems at the moment, I have no problem with the actual connection, but loading web pages is dog awful at the moment.

They may put the new box by the old one and hook up the old extensions for you? It was 10 years ago since we had ours installed so can't remember exactly.

I am tempted by 50mb but feel its a little too steep for me at the moment. Been qouted £60 for xl tv, 50mb and basic phone line.

Whats everyone else paying?

Also to guy on the phone confirmed to me that all 20mb customers would be upgraded to 30mb in feb.

I pay £65 for xl phone, xl tv with v+ box, xxl broadband

I had my 50mb cable since it was 1st released a couple of years ago. The curved 50mb modems have not been the best according to the engineer who came out to me.

The superhub as stated above, essentially replaces both the 50mb modem and wifi router with 1 item. Also its compatible with 100mb, which would be just a phone call.
