Virgin Media Discussion Thread

The price for VIP packages has already changed on the Virgin website. Virgin staff over on CableForum have confirmed increases to the other packages will be following.

Edit: Staff are now saying the website price is wrong and that VIP50 will be £100.55, so the increase will only be £3.15.

Got my letter about the £30 30Mb upgrade the other day. Can't say i'm bothered about an extra 10Mb down and 1/4 Mb up... but I could do with the "free" router :D

I've got my 100mb booked for next Thursday, although i thought it could be done over the phone they said they have to do a manual install as it's the only way it can be done (im on 50mb just now).

I am on the 50meg service and won't be getting the 100meg as i think 50meg is well fast enough. A consistent 50meg speed in this area so no complaints here.

Got mine installed this morning. Worked fine to begin with, then all of a sudden it took ages to load any website up. Phoned up vm and it turns out that my upstream channel power levels were way below normal ranges. So I have to wait till Monday now for the engineer to sort it out :(. So if your getting upgraded soon make sure the engineer checks all the readings, would have saved me a lot of hassle!

Hi all, just got my broadband upgraded to 50mbps. I have tested the connection using thinkbroadband monitor and its up and down like a yo yo.

See pic, 1 gig file using port 8080 then another test with 1gig download it fluctuates from 20mbps to 50mbps.

I am trying to make a decision whether it is worth keeping, I know I get 28 days to cancel?

What kind of sustained downloads do you guys get?

Thanks
Daz

That's typical for thinkbroadband's servers. From them it's always been up and down for me aswell, but from elsewhere I get a straight line..

Try downloading from somewhere else that you know is good, like Rapidshare or microsoft.

The first straight line is the microsoft link from above and the second is thinkbroadband's 1GB file link.

BTW I'm on BT FTTC and I ran this test while uploading at 1Mbit's and playing GTA online, but the results are the same even when the connection is idle.

Find decent server's to test with and never trust just one.

gets worse and worse pretty much 4pm - midnight everyday you can forget online gaming on mine

seriously considering dumping it and just getting the lowest package they do til they sort all these issues out

152ms ping to bbc tonight

Terrible to be honest, all the past online gaming problems are back after only 1 month. VM are having a laugh if they think this is acceptable.

If I downgrade to 10mb does that help with online gaming?
