Reposting my problem on the new page :P i will try the firewall thing but wouldn't that leave me open?

what are you using to download? are you using torrents?
If you are using torrents then it might be that you're maxing out you upload stream if you haven't capped your torrents/client. This will cause browsing to time out.

Hi,

Just carried out a test and got the following: -

Does this look right, especially the upload speed?

Here's a ping test : -

Not sure why the packet loss can't be carried out?

Thanks

Well managed to sort the ping test: -

But the upload speed still seems rather low: -

Anyone have any ideas as to why, or what I need to check out?

Thanks

Tut tut for not reading posts properly ;)

Anyway it's all fixed now

Due to VM's routing, London will always provide the most accurate results for your VM speed tests, as follows:

So my real ping is 26 not 10?:(

How long is a piece of string? Ping isn't a static, definable variable. By its very nature it varies constantly depending on who/what you're pinging, the network state, local congestion, upstream congestion, routing, distance to the target, the load on the target server (and its settings - ICMP could be set to low priority) etc etc.

That said, I'm over 200 miles away from London and got better pings than you did, and you're <50 miles away according to SpeedTest.net. Who knows? I certainly wouldn't worry about it, at any rate.

EDIT: Just saw you added a pingtest.net graphic. That certainly looks like a good line to me. :)

I just upgraded to 30meg and superhub. I was about to buy a NAS and a 300N gigabyte router and now I dont have to. The only problem is the new router/modem is behind my TV and the old router is at the other end of the living room. So now Ill need a gigabyte switch so I can plug in the NAS my PC and netwrok printer. So far I just turned the old router into a acces point and turned of wifi so its basically a 10/100 switch. Saved some cash.

Was getting 89% packet loss until I turned off IP Flood Detection

speed test can't be right 50mb line it's all over the place :( anything from 20mb to over 100mb so i don't really trust it.

Clear your browser cache and cookies (eg run CCleaner), and if that fails you'll likely find it's your antivirus causing this issue by trying to intercept and cache the speed test files. Kaspersky is one of the apps well known to do this, but several others do also.

You could always temporarily disable any web guard/shield (or your whole AV) whilst you run the speed test. Likely you'll find your results are accurate then. :)

Since last week my 50mbit service has been terrible. Slow opening web pages and poor speeds fluctuating all over the place.

Some nasty looking ping results right there.
