Vista Beta 2 Goes Public Today

Installed as dual boot and works lovely AMD XP2500 Barton,1.5 Gig of Crucial and ATI 9800 pro.

Only problem is the Realteck RTL8029 network card I have for my LAN isn't installing, have tried xp drivers and it seems to recognise what hardware it is but then I get 'There is no driver selected for the device information set or element'

Good job the onboard network card installs ok otherwise I'd be without internet, will see if there's a work around and failing that I have a spare alternate network card I can try.

Other than that no complaints....oh apart from IE7 which I gave up on and ended up installing Firefox. :D

KASM whats the speed like running through your 9800?

im after a cheap (about £60) AGP card for the next few months as my PCI aint cutting it, untill i upgrade to PCI-E in the new year.

Barton [email protected]
Abit NF7-S Nforce 2 Mobo
2gb of Twinmos 3200DDR
6800GT
Audigy 2
Twin 17" Sharp TFT's, and one 20" Belinea Widescreen

Installed Vista on the same hard disk as my existing XP install, just on a different partition. Things seem fine.

The install took utterly ages via dvd rom, almost an hour and a half of just copying files over and then expanding. Then around 20 reboots later I had a working desktop. It's quite nippy and I can feel even my GT's gpu groaning at times with all the eye candy although its not bad given that this isn't even final code yet.

IE7 is a pos which I'm using now. Way too sluggish. Most of my apps seem to be working, those that run without any registry entries anyway.

Bed time now, so i'll upload some pics when I wake up in 5hrs time.

One piccy for now. Need sleeep!

my rig is pretty sluggish by todays standards... :p

intel pentium m [email protected] (equivalent to a similar speed a64), 1gb ram and an x800gto.

Running nicely with Vista eye candy all turned on, the 9800 is still a capable card and runs all current games without any problems.

On another note, does anyone know what best AV prog is for Vista? Microsoft seem to be recommending eTrust EZ Antivirus or Trend Micro's PC-cillin, but I've never heard good things about either in the past.

It uses loads of memory about 750MB without anything open, seems slower in response than xp, and of course its pretty bad for gaming because of all the memory it uses. Looks nice though. The new system doesnt really seem that different from the old one.
The memory manager has actually been improved - it uses all memory available. On a 512Mb RAM machine, it will use near as damn it all 512. On 2Gb, it will use nearly all 2Gb. This is the way Linux & other OS's all use memory.

Well with the internet not working I cant do much atm, also I should warn you, it screws up your other windows install even if you do dual boot.
Sholuldn't touch your other installs. Hasn't on any PC I installed on.

Hmm, my install sems to have got to the completing installation bit then stopped. Its been like that for about 2 hours, i assume thats a problem. :(

x24400
Asus A8N SLI Deluxe

Ok well i got the 64 bit version to work eventually. I reset the computer via the reset button. It loaded straight back to where it was before (completing installation) and after about 30 seconds it finished and started.

It doesnt seem to bad on the response side although i do have some issues with unknown devices (3 media controllers, 2 unknown devices and a raid controller) if anyone knows what they are and where the drivers are i'd be grateful.

My Rig

X2 4400
2GB RAM
A8N SLI Deluxe
Leadtek 6800GT
Leadtek DTV1000T (installs drivers but has issues)

I can confirm that it doesn't like VMWARE. Although I was trying to run it on a laptop with 256 mb allocated which isn't a good base for testing.

Got the 32bit version installed without a hitch.

However downloaded and installed the Creative/Soundblaster "vista" driver but it's not having any of it.

Any tips?

Audigy 2 btw...

Quick screenie -

Have a look here (may apply to older build though)

Creative Audigy 2 (Standard) - No built-in support, but it works with beta drivers from Creative's site (Although the device manager must be clean of any creative drivers first)

Right i decided to be brave, formatted my laptop completely and stuck Vista on.

Dont have Aero Glass running, but the Aero basic. Runs smooth as a bell - bar the long boot.

1.7GHz M Processor
512MB Ram
64MB ATI Radeon 9600
60GB
DVD-RW

:)

Installed all drivers from install :o

Right, x64 finally installed on my system. List of problems...

My audigy 2 doesnt work on the x64 version with the current Creative vista beta drivers. I think they are for beta 1 only. It says Unable to install the drive and it is possibly incorrect or corrupt. I can install the x64 drivers for XP Pro x64 but there is no sound. Hope they sort a Beta 2 release soon.

Also having problems with Widcomm (Belkin) Bluetooth adapter - installs software but drivers again, dont install. Logitech QuickCam Pro 4000 and Compro DVB-T200 - no drivers at all. There are also several Unknown Devices in Device Manager. But other than that, not bad :D

Runs quite smoothly otherwise, but not had a chance to do many tests yet.

I can't seem to get a driver for some sort of device attached to Intel(R) 82801EB LPC Interface Controller - 24D0

I assume this is part of the USB system but all my USB devices work. Asus has not drivers for this mobo, a PC-DL Deluxe, on their site, not even for XP. Installing the drivers from the CD that came with the motherboard does not solve the problem.

Has anyone else this problem? Does anyone now of a fix for it?

Direct links no longer work, and after ten hours of downloading stupid firefox messed it up :(

Having exactly the same problem. Downloaded two links last night, after one was messing around. Both corrupt :(

Can't seem to use MS download manager either...

Thinking of doing this as well, once I confirm my printer (HP5150) and scanner (Epson 2480) both work. Have you tried the media connect stuff with the 360 yet?

I've only an integrated Intel 915 graphics chip, how does Aero Basic look?
