Vista Beta 2 Goes Public Today

Thinking of doing this as well, once I confirm my printer (HP5150) and scanner (Epson 2480) both work. Have you tried the media connect stuff with the 360 yet?

I've only an integrated Intel 915 graphics chip, how does Aero Basic look?

Nope not yet, was my plan to do so today :)

Aero Basic looks pretty much the same just no transparent. :)

Has anyone found creative drivers that work yet? I did download some from creative but they just jammed and then vista went and messed it up by trying some compatibility crap and now it just says that the install is not compatible with this version of windows and I need to upgrade to vista.

Thanks for letting me use your ftp Jon.

I left it to download while I was out, and it got a error on downloading (thinking it could be internet getting disconected :( )

20% through after 25mins, not bad.

The reason you can't play many games is because they're incompatible, i.e. drivers, DX10, setup version control etc. All problems that can and will be fixed for current games by the time or soon after it ships. It has nothing to do with memory. As soon as a game or any larger memory consumer software loads up the memory manager will page out all the junk in memory to make way for the new process.

:) OK, has anyone been able to get their Audigy 2 cards installed?.....because i cant...

Tried the Audigy Vista driver...no luck
Tried the Audigy XP driver....no luck

The system recognizes the hardware, goes through the installation process, but still no sound and shows up as unknown device after reboot, it just wont install the drivers... , is this a known problem.?

Its really annoying, as its the only problem im having with Vista....i cant believe that such a common and popular soundcard is not compatible with Vista....its not exactly an obscure piece of hardware is it....

help... :)

It's the most widely used sound card, but microsoft cant even get that to work, my audigy 4 doesnt work either yet it says everything is fine just no sound comes out. By beta 2 youd expect the most popular pieces of hardware to be working, not a good sign a for a Jan release...

The paging is what causes the problem with vista and games, it takes ages to load the game while it dumps the ram to the pagefile, then continues to make the game stutter when playing by dumping more stuff into the pagefile when the games playing.

hmm...theres no way at all to install this from a virtual drive yes? :(

just noticed after my dl finished that i have no blank dvd's and im too lazy to go for a 20 min walk to get some :D

I also can't get the Creative soundcard to work but I believe this is down to the motherboard not reconising the card. Due to no motherboard drivers being installed.

I've downloaded the Nvidia drivers from the site but the zip file has no exe.

How do I install it?

The creative cards wont work full stop, once you install the drivers it just says that everything is working fine, but no sound will come out.

yep, i've given up on it, dual booted back to XP and i wont be going back to Vista until i read about the Audigy 2 cards working...

It was good to have a look at Vista anyway, just glad i went the dual boot option...

After installing the drivers Vista still can't see my Creative soundcard.

I doubt Microsoft would have forgotten about the most popular soundcard out.

Creative Soundcards are a problem in Vista, and have been for a good long while. Just take a look round various forums - it's nothing new. The latest drivers they produced are hit 'n' miss on 32-bit, and if they work you get stereo only. If you've got x64 installed, forget it.

It has nothing whatsoever to do with MS, it's just laziness on the part of Creative.

Right, for all those who still want to download it but can't from the Windows site, I am downloading it onto my server at the moment. I'm about to go out though, while I'm out you can add me to MSN - nykampcw[at]hotmail[dot]com and I'll send you the link as soon as i'm back/it's finished.

Craig.

I used this briefly last night. Biggest issues for me are that Real player doesn't work properly, I can't get the touchpad driver to recognise both buttons as a middle mouse click - they're enough to stop me from wanting to use it now, but I'm quite impressed for a beta. Everything (down to Wireless, volume buttons, sound) worked pretty much perfectly on my laptop without any special driver installation, it's more than Windows XP manages!

Maybe Creative are working on some for this build.
