Vista Beta 2 Goes Public Today

I used this briefly last night. Biggest issues for me are that Real player doesn't work properly, I can't get the touchpad driver to recognise both buttons as a middle mouse click - they're enough to stop me from wanting to use it now, but I'm quite impressed for a beta. Everything (down to Wireless, volume buttons, sound) worked pretty much perfectly on my laptop without any special driver installation, it's more than Windows XP manages!

Realplayer? why would you want it :p

Maybe Creative are working on some for this build.
They're for a much older build - 5321. This is 5384.4, so those drivers have been around a while.

Based on peoples experiences with those drivers, 32-bit's hit 'n' miss, and 64-bit doesn't work at all.

OK problem Time!! lol

Right,

Having installed office 2007 beta, im trying to put my pst and such back in its usual place.

ie

c:\documents and settings\user name\local files\

problem is, even with my account being a full admin, i have also tried the admin account.

Access to these folders is denied. I have tried taking owner ship and such, but no go.

So no email for me then.

Security is a bit too tight on this thing i think.

Any suggestions before i blow it away for now and go back to xp pro?

cheers

I'd abandon putting it back. Create a new PST, and just import all your emails etc from the old PST.

Should work.

could do, but the problem is i like to have access to the documents and settings folder anyways.

I dont like being locked out of stuff when i am supposedly and "Administrator" on my own machine lol :D if you know what i mean

It's gonna be hit and miss tho as it's beta.
People find work rounds, but this is a day old.

Take here as an example.

Creative SoundBlaster Live! Series. Works with special drivers found here http://www.ngohq.com/home.php?page=Files&go=cat&dwn_cat_id=20 (32 Bit) (does not work with gamer mode, nothing gets installed) Instead, download the WinXP driver, run it (it will say and error message, don't press OK yet, go to (for example C:\Users\a\AppData\Local\Temp\CRF000\Audio\Drivers\WIN2K_XP) and in device manager click "update driver" and use that path. Or you can extract the driver from the package. Download LiveDrvUni-Pack(ENG).exe (24.451.404 bytes) and extract the /audio/drivers folder and run CTZAPXX.exe to install the drivers. Now digital output trough the creative digital din plug works with 5.1 speaker setting with Creative Inspire 5.1.

Very hit and miss way of installing a driver, and you might have to find a similar work round.

Have you disabled UAP? It that doesn't solve it, I'm out of ideas. Google might throw up some more.

hmm i cant get it to install. throws up error: 0xc00000e9 , complaining about something to do with a removable drive :( tried 3 diff dvd drives and they all do the same

I'm wondering if I can be bothered to install this as it seems rather limited at the moment. Firstly I'd have to install my old IDE drive and I can't really be bothered to open up the case and try and fit it around my X1900XT. Also I have an X-Fi soundcard and I don't like the idea of having no sound and reports of it messing up XP is even worse.

It will not mess up XP if it is on a different drive/partition. I am just thinking if I want to format my E partition or not...

The death of uap was the first thing i did ;) lol

I hate having the pc holding my hand lol

If i didnt really want to do something i wouldnt have clicked it lol.

Another annoying one is when you quit programs, are you sure you want to quit? "yes" next promopt are your really sure? ffs if i didnt want to quit i wouldnt have clicked quit in the first place lol.

Love the media cent. though, sat watching south park streaming from comedy central at the moment.

Did I read that right, it asks you if you are sure twice??! Can that be turned off?

I am wanting the media functions though for the 360.

Creative Soundcards are a problem in Vista, and have been for a good long while. Just take a look round various forums - it's nothing new. The latest drivers they produced are hit 'n' miss on 32-bit, and if they work you get stereo only. If you've got x64 installed, forget it.

It has nothing whatsoever to do with MS, it's just laziness on the part of Creative.

Ive never had a driver problem with 32-bit using creative cards.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you were just complaining that your Audigy 4 doesn't work. Either you're using 32-bit and it plain doesn't work, or you're using 64-bit, in which case you won't've tried 32-bit.... unless you managed to download and install both versions.

And you can't really say you've 'never' had a problem when you've only installed 1 build on 1 pc.

Loving it! apart from some annoyance trying to set up network with an xp machine and one driver issue thats now fixed I've got to say Vista is very nice, everything just looks better for some reason, fonts are nicer web pages seem to look better even colours look more vivid. With UAP disabled its a lot less annoying trying out new features.

The games are quite cool as well. still haven't tried half of what I want to but at the moment I'm more than impressed.

post edit: anyone know of a decent alternative to Daemon tools which just doesn't want to install?
