i have the beta from our msdn subscription but i want to try downloading it anyway.

so check this out - i download the 64bit version yesterday - does it in a few hours - and hey presto i've got a 4gb file with nothing inside it other than a TXT file!!!

Few hours? Lucky you.

Mine takes 12++ hours (512k connection) and it just disappeared after downloading. I ended up asking a friend to send it to me on DVD.

That is what it is. Burn an image of it to DVD and it will work. Or alternatively, you can see all the files with Daemon Tools.

The first time I downloaded it the file didn't disappear, so I mounted it with Daemon and all I could see was a txt file. The other 2 times I downloaded it the file just plain disappeared... well it actually turned itself into a 0 byte ISO image. All three times I tried with a different download manager and the third time I tried on a completely different PC. >.<

managed to get Vista to see the modem, and according to all diagnostics on the modem it was working but couldn't get it to 'dial'. Anyone else tried?
Have now managed to get this working for anyone interested. Clean reinstall of Vista with modem unplugged. Ran the original Speedtouch installation CD and only plugged the modem in right at the end. Found everything and goes on internet just fine.

Hi All,

Done a search on this thread, but i'm looking for some antivirus software compatible with this vista beta. Anyone recommend anything? Please? :D

I'm having problems installing x64 on an IDE hd on my dfi nf4 ultra. The installation goes ok through all the steps until it needs to reboot. When it boots it gets to the end of the post screen and thats it. The curser blinks and the
hd light is on but nothing happens, no error messages and it hasn't crashed. I've left it like this for hours but it stays the same.

I've tried reinstalling it a few times but it's always the same. When I do reinstall it, it shows there are windows files on the drive and asks to rename them as old files but says nothing about a previous installation being in progress. Loading into xp on my sata drive I can see all the vista files.

Some people have suggested turning off raid and sata but I have already done
this.

Does anybody have any suggestions?

Hi,

About to install. I have a raptor with XP pro on it at the moment - will I need to make a partition, or will it install without making a mess of XP?
Any options during install that I need to select to stop it making a mess of XP?

You need a separate partition or it'll almost definitely make a mess.

Cheers, will do.
One more thing - I'm using an MSI K8N Neo 2 platinum and I can't find any Vista drivers. Can I just install regular XP ones?

Vista found the drivers for the Nforce 4 board fine. If it is 32bit than the XP drivers should work, overwise use the default ones with Vista.

Ace. Cheers guys! I'll hopefully post back later from Vista! (If it works with my wireless  )

Vista has built in drivers for NF3.

All I needed to install was "proper" 6800 drivers and the AC97 sound drivers.

i attempted to search topic about games didnt come up with much and wasnt willing to read all 30+ pages so quick question really,

Im going to format and install vista 64 and wanted to know is anything going to work on it im used to using for example, xfire ,team speak, games (WoW?,BF2?,HL2/CSS?) or is there anyway for these said things to work?

Well I'm running the x64 version and I can say that HL2/CS:S & BF2 work perfectly. Performance is a little slower than xp but thats to be expected due to the drivers. Xfire works fine too.

Start/windows ultimate extra's. I found the sound drivers there. The GPU drivers I got myslef from Nvidia - whats wrong with these?

That ultimate extra's also found the sound effects for me. :D (They were not there first time. :( )

I installed last night, working fine, a bit of trouble getting battle for middle earth 2 to patch however due to the fact the administrator settings stop u from installing patches yet you are the admin

Sorted it all now by disabling a few of the options ;)

Performance wise in games a bit slower but on my machine its still fine :D

There seems to be a lot of background loading tho initially when the OS loads til around 20mins of use....any ideas?

Sorry, but this is a quickie, and not found anything specific from searching the thread, though not got a clue what term I should use, anyway:

I'm just getting round to installing this. If I install Vista from XP, over the top of it, is it a complete wipe of the HDD as such? Or is it just an upgrade, keeping all programs etc installed?

Doesn't really matter either way, as I'm due for a reformat anyway, but thanks in advance.

Dave
