Vodka

They are both of a good standard for the price but I would always choose Finlandia. Spend the extra 30p and get the Grapefruit Fusion. It is epic.

Can't seem to find it in stock at any of the major supermarkets, at least after an online search.

I have drunk many vodkas in my time and my favorite has to be Skyy vodka, it's the only Vodka that I can rinse (once doing a whole bottle throughout a long night) without getting a hangover in the morning, the stuff rocks :-)

History

Produced by SKYY Spirits of San Francisco in California, the SKYY Vodka is perhaps one of the purest Vodka’s of the world. It comes in a stylish cobalt blue bottle with a reflective and inviting foil label. It was originally made in 1988 by chemist Maurice Kanbar. Kanbar was worried about the problems among the drinking community regarding to headaches and hangovers. He was determined to find a solution for this problem. With his extensive research he gathered that alcohol related headaches were the cause of presence of certain impurities known as congeners which made the spirit unpalatable and causes hangovers and headaches.

Process

SKYY Vodka is made with a view to reduce these congeners level in the spirit to the minimum possible and as such goes through four column distillation method and three step filtration system. These are made from finest grains, and pure distilled water and with this innovative distillation and filtration system it is able to remove the impurities –‘congeners’ from the spirit and reduce their level to bare minimum. As a result a very pure, fresh and smooth tasting Vodka is formed which is practically congener free.

After a four column distillation process at technically controlled temperatures, the Skyy Vodka also passes through 3 filters of charcoal, rough cellulose and fine cellulose in order to remove those impurities which may have escaped the process of distillation. In this way it is doubly ensured that there are no impurities left behind in the spirit. After distillation and filtration each of the batches is again checked individually for a smooth fine taste.

The chief products of the SKYY Vodka are SKYY berry which is a blend of all natural berry flavors such as Raspberry, Black Berry and Blue Berry. Another major popular product is the SKYY Citrus which is made from all natural citrus flavors such as lime, orange, tangerine and grapefruit. The SKYY Vanilla is a vanilla flavored drink which uses Madagascar Vanilla beans and Amaretto flavor in its making. SKYY Vodka and all its products can also be used for blending with other fruit based juices and soda based drinks to form exciting cocktails which are extremely popular among party people and specially amongst the fairer sex as they find it sweet and less strong in taste than the natural rum vodka category drinks.

The SKYY Vodka is fast becoming the premium vodka around the world and it is currently leading the domestic super premium vodka brands in the United States. With its softness and super mellow smoothness it is synonymous with style and sophistication in its extremely stylish and charming blue bottle.

Grey Goose on the rocks please sir :)

Except I've all but run out of the £12-a-litre stash we brought back from holiday last year and it's £50/litre over here so it can wait until I next find myself abroad

How would you rate these:
stolichniya
Russian standard
Russian standard gold
Zubrowka
Absolut

The finest my local Sainsburys can offer.

Skyy Vodka is made by mixing industrial ethanol and water.

What's a good, commercially available, tonic to add to make my V&Ts even better? Usually just use Schweppes but prepared to try some other stuff if they are easy to get hold of.

Cousin's father-in-law's Moonshine>Standard Polish Vodka>Russian Vodka. Moonshine (Bimber) is lovely 60% but smoother than a 40% Vodka, also has a slight apple taste.

Shot glasses no mucking around :)

Wyborowa, Zubrowka and Sobieski are decent ones to try.

Oooo, I'm tempted to get a bottle of "Snow Queen". Last bottle of Kazakhstan vodka I had was called "Berkut", utterly amazing stuff. Never been able to find it since :(

As for Chase vodka, I'm tempted to try some. Did you know the bloke who makes it (Mr Chase) is the same guy who started Tyrrells crisps?

You would make a lot of people mad if you mixed it with cheap stuff! lol.

I don't see anything wrong with making, say, Caipiroskas or Vodka martinis with decent vodka.

I quite like Cranberry juice as a mixer if I don't drink it neat.

You can pick up snow queen in waitrose according to their online shopping, might pop along in the next few days and see what fun things I can pick up for christmas
