Warhammer: Vermintide 2

good comparison, but it's a little more annoying with Vermintide. From what i remember, L4D characters are just different character models and don't have unique abilities? So, sure, you can end up playing someone who you don't like the annoying voice of but it doesn't fundamentally change your play-style, whereas each character in Vermintide does - so you could well load into a server to be left with a choice of 2 characters you either don't like playing or don't have anywhere near the level required for the difficulty setting. This leaves you finding another server or just not being bothered and loading up a different game (or, making you only playing with your friends and thus reducing the times you want to play and limits any mingling/interaction with the community). Sure, this isn't unique to Vermintide 2, as it was the same with V1, but it's reminding me of why I only played it in dribs and drabs when specific mates were online.

It's not a massive issue as you can see what characters are in use when you hover over a server in the browser. I found it easy to quickly find a game for my main. I imagine if one character is a bit OP and becomes a favourite then it would be more frustrating though.

I've been enjoying it, though most of the teams I've been getting leave a lot to be desired.
You would have thought most of the people in the beta would have been Vermintide veterans, don't think I ever wiped this many times on normal in the original. :p

I've put many, many hours into the first - played this beta and it's still under NDA so no really allowed to say much....but....it does still need some work.

Rumours are it wasn't a current build, and we'll be seeing a new one on the 22nd.

Played a couple of missions so far. Won the first, lost the second at the very last checkpoint (exit activated right as we were dying).

Never played the first, and didnt spend any time learning, just jumped straight in.

Seemed like an OKish romp. Not feeling it with randoms but would be fun with friends. The Elf felt a little underpowered in comparison to the others, but maybe they had already played a few rounds.

Graphically it looks really nice. Default FOV is a bit low at 60 so needs upped. Sounds were good, especially on the first mission - lots of audio cues to let you know something was about to happen, building suspense.

Not sure AI needs to be intelligent in a horde shooter/hack'em'up

Excellent, they've improved upon most of the issues I had with the first (mainly around random loot). Really looking forward to full release now.

Just an FYI for those who've pre-ordered: the "new" beta goes live tomorrow (28th) I think at 7pm (?) and progress from that point on carries over to the full game (unless they have some major issues that warrant a reset). I've not played much of the early betas as I didn't want to repeat myself....

I think it's priced perfectly, it's a game to jump into for a quick blast.

The closed test was supposed to end yesterday but i've been playing it a fair bit today, maybe they will just leave it up and update it later.
