Watch Dogs - Ubisoft's Third Person Shooter

Had no problems whatsoever with this game yet this thread has turned into a how do i get this working thread.

Im looving it. Its usually the other way around were i cant get things working without the usual tinkering and google searches :)

This is why you don't pre-order/purchase games at launch. Are you really that incompetent that you can't wait just a couple of hours to see the current state of the game?

But if we don't blindly throw all our money at them how will they know that we completely approve of everything about the game and their attitude towards us, and hope that future releases will be just as "impressive" and "polished"?

Woah kid, put the Prozac down and calm down a little.
Yeah there's a ton of people that don't like it but there seems to be quite a few people that do like it, and at the end of the day it's up to others how they decide to spend their hard earned cash and you can only make decisions for yourself.
I myself will not be pre-ordering any game after being burned 1 to many times before with the last time being Colonial Marines.

Actually I lie The Witcher 3 is the only game I will be pre-ordering as I loved the last 2 and that developer seems to do things the right way!

Its weird how this seems to run like a dog on some folks systems that are on paper spec wise at least, more than capable of running it at high/ultra. I assume most folk who are having huge issues running it on fairly high specced rigs are running at a high resolution?

My system is fairly old and previous generation yet the game runs as smooth as silk for me, a few settings at ultra and the rest on high @ 1920x1080. There's the odd stutter every now and again but they are few and far between. The system I'm running it on consists of an i7 920 D0 o/c'd to 3.6ghz, a 2 Gb R7850 Twin Frozr III at stock and 16Gb of RAM.

So far, I'm enjoying WD, although I wouldn't say its got that 'I'll just play for another hour more' feeling that some games have. Currently only really following the main storyline missions, not really delved into any of the side missions/activities yet.

I think having only 6gb memory is affecting mine, plus obviously me choosing to run it at higher settings.

I had my Paging file off initially, and watchdogs would crash just trying to start a new game. Setting up a paging file resolved that, but now after the game has been running a while, I get freezes when driving.

i7 920 @ 3.8 - 6 gb - gtx 780

Might be time to pickup another 6 gb memory :)

Have you tried this yet?

Make a shortcut to the game and add "-disablepagefilecheck" without the quotation marks after the target and the stuttering should be extremely minimal (essentially just when driving very fast and loading new environments).

Example (under target): "X:\Games\WD\watch_dogs.exe" -disablepagefilecheck

Just fiddling around with SweetFX a bit. Makes quite a big difference (still need to make it slightly less contrasty I know)

How did you get sweet fx to work?

I can't get sweetfx to work at all on Watch Dogs on Windows 7. I installed sweet fx 1.5.1 into the c:/x86/ubisoft game launcher/games/watchdogs/bin...ran the sweet fx configurator and nothing.

Tried disabling uplay overlay, playing offline, running game as administrator and running it in compatibility mode but i still cant get sweetfx to work. All my other games sweet fx works fine.

Any help mate?

Thanks for the info, I'll give that a go :)

I followed this guide for Windows 8.1. I imagine the same kinda thing applies for Windows 7

Edit: Sorry just realised you're using nVidia cards so I guess a lot of that wont apply

i have 6gb ram also, no problems here, no crashing, game runs pretty smooth at 30 fps all on ultra, temporal smaa, 1920x1200 with the occasional fps dive for a few secondss, usually when a lot of ui appears after finishing a mission or something. according to my g15 display im only using about 80% of my ram

all this talk of 30-50 fps is making me and my BenQ at home cry :'(

y u no optimised game?!?!?!?! am curious just to see how this game runs on my pc to be fair :p anything below 100 and it's out the window! hahahah xD

Why doesn't steam put up a big warning signs about games that have additional drm and account signup crap. I'm sick of it, can't stand steam let alone all these others rublishers wanting to get in on the act crap.

I agree, there should be a "this game uses 3rd party DRM" pop-up when you click the buy button but they do have the info on the game page.
Just train yourself to hit CTRL-F and search for DRM before clicking buy...
