Watch Dogs - Ubisoft's Third Person Shooter

Watch dogs after 10 hours solid! And very sore fingers later!!!

The ship set sale around midnight and arrived by 10am in the morning. :p

Digs out my my fav Logitech rumble 2 cordless pad all set.
Installation went well all was fine, nice intro got into the the atmosphere of the game, happy days so I thought.

WTF?
The controls what where they thinking, pc lead devlopment my ****! Only has support for xbox 360
pads, WHY? not everyone who owns a pc has a xbox360 pad!

So I spend a good hour getting my pad working using a xbox 360ce pad emulator and a google translator.
I will stop right there for a moment.
WWWHHHHHHHHHYYYYYYYYY do i have to do this? Why? no reason at all you muppets!!!

So onto game yippeee controller works, now let me set up the configuration of controller, guess what
you cannot ******* do it?????? You cannot change the 360 controller configuration WHY???

Now on to the game guess what? I like it yes I really do they onto something.
Everyone moaning about graphics and glitches etc. You all forget this is a new ip
across 2 generation platforms and it works well (besides the bloody controls).

Now remember the bug fest GTA 3 was when that came out, not a new ip but a different look
from gta 1&2.

Graphics wise not bad, reflections, facial and character models are bad. But this is
next gen .5 not quiet there yet.

As for gameplay 10 hours later and 3 broken fingers, jumped out the car so many time, who the ****
has exit car next to acclerate is beyond me. I know you going to say key remap. I bloody tried
but my fav keys up/down/left right work but my others dont ie Return and backspace!!! I gave up in
the end and ended up like someone handicapped wacking hell out the keyboard and pad. :(

Now I am not going to spoil anything but some stuff just kills the atmosphere totaly.
Why I dunno console crap I suppose, but it does really kill the intro portrayal, what I thought was gritty,
crime ridden world turned into mario sometimes.

Driving is bad what is it with the delay when corning with the camera?? I need to know asap whats round the corner
not some sweeping camera effect. Sort it UBI!

Verdict
Its bloody different thats for sure, but them controls and car camera.

Not playing until they fix the controls, camera.

Played on 1680x1050 gtx480 2500k @ 4.5 16gb all settings high, seemed ok to me for the age of my card.

As is 5/10

Fixed 8/10

It has promise thats for sure.

360 has been the standard for way more than 4 years :) It's not even a 360 pad its a PC official pad for windows now lol. 2006-2014 the only pad to use on steam games.

Fine with me but why no option to reconfigure?

The way I play my thumbs do the walking my fingers do the talking. ;)

Thumbs are way faster than fingers for controllers, as the fingers are holding the controller.

The opposite is true for mice and keyboard as your thumb is just flopped over the side and the fingers
are out stretched and alert over keyboard.

Might be me but the controls are plucked on pc. Xbox, Ps4 you will be fine as you are used to them. But to me I like what I like and thats what I use, you dont let me
use it then jog on! ;)

Neither do I tbh. The game seems to be exactly the same as AC4 in terms of the narrative not following the actual gameplay....You see a cutscene where 2 people talk(well, mumble) about finding his sister for example, then an objective pops up at the top of the screen saying 'follow the briefcase' or 'set up the ambush' or something. It has practically nothing to do with the scene I just saw!

I think you need to pay more attention to the scenes. I really can't say I've noticed that but those particular 2 you mentioned are very clearly explained in the cut scenes.

Using cameras to profile you by any chance? I hate when people get beat online in a game and automatically think they are being cheated somehow lol
I tried using the cameras myself - They take ages to lock on to a target and profile them.
I'm talking about getting up to someone, hitting the key to start the hack/upload and they immediately turn and head *straight* toward me, as if I have an objective marker right over my head.

Can you profile the potential invader before they even start invading, or something?
I'm not doing anything to get noticed and in most cases I'm definitely out of LOS from the player and all cameras. I notice their 'hackability' rating is always very high, as I never seem to get matched with anyone as low-rated as me.

I don't automatically assume cheats are being used. I normally expect to get utterly owned, as it happens in most online games I play - I simply cannot manage more than 36 hours practice a week, so will never be anywhere near as good as the hardcore gamers... but these guys must have some insane skills to be able to catch me within seconds, every single time?

Has performance been patched up yet or any incoming patches soon?

Pre-ordered but ran horribly on xfire 290s so have held off playing in hope of a patch or two.

There's a lot of stuff in the thread that just makes this feel like a pretty badly made game all round, I still want to give it a try but only when it's on sale.

Seriously ,How long has this game been out. A few days and already they got DLC released on steam..

Pay extra for DLC that should have been in the game in the first place, So many developers getting too greedy these days.

Are you not stood with phone in hand whilst doing it? Surely a quick scan whilst turning would spot you if so? Also do upgrades not give you perks to improve hacking?

36 hours a week?!?
On a good week, yes.
Based on chats with gamers who regularly 'pwn' me, this is apparently quite low and a main reason why I am "suxorz" at games...

That's been the business model for years now. A friend of mine works for a well-known studio and part of his job is deciding on and designing the stuff that will be kept aside for DLC. He doesn't agree with it either, but that's how it goes.

If you don't like it, don't buy it.
So long as it's £15 for just a different outfit or something and not a game-winning machinegun, I'm happy for other people to fund server maintenance and stuff!

Actually I usually hide behind something (like a big building) or drive a car, staying on the absolute periphery of the hacking zone.
Those who hack me never look like they have a phone in hand, though - They appear like any other NPC, so I assume I look the same when I'm hacking them?

It has some poor parts in the game, but lots of games are like this that end up being fun. Lots of people here are making extreme judgements because of something tiny they dislike in the game.

GTA is loved by many, but also has tons of bad mechanics, but no one bats an eye lid at those. The trend with watch_dogs seems to be cherry picking every little bad design in game.

Imo if you are unsure, and like you said wait until its on sale because i think its worth a play if you like this style of game.

Just so you know it follows the trend of using Ubi's known game mechanics borrowed from games like AC, Far Cry 3, Splinter Cell, i think it uses those mechanics well to make a fun city with plenty of things to do.

Had a really good session last night, with quite a few good missions in a row(though it is slightly devolving in to a series of shootouts). Also some really good bits of online.

It is a poorly made game, but it is still a good game overall. Whatever else I don't like about the gameplay in Ubi games, they create really amazing worlds, and fill them with plenty of content

Oh, I know why broadly why I am following specific objectives, but in general, the gameplay has little relevance to the story tbh. There is a marked disconnect between narrative and gameplay in recent Ubi games. It is similar in AC4.

The story itself isn't bad, but is far too convoluted, especially when married to the missions that follow and precede cutscenes

Mine runs pretty badly on ultra settings, regularly drop into 20 fps, only game that's really performed badly for me so far. I've just downloaded the 14.6 beta drivers and not much difference if any. Anybody else struggling with their AMD cards?
