"We are not allowed to ask for water"

Completely understand the companies point of view as it puts them in a bad light if their employees have to ask for water. But here's a tip for them, make sure they hand out bottled water to their drivers so they don't need to ask customers.

Same for our cleaners as we have free vending for our delegates so I can offer but they can't ask. Probably a tax thing.

All our drivers all know they can grab a brew when they come in though.

Totally understand the company policy to be honest. There's absolutely nothing stopping the driver from being organised and bringing enough water for his day/shift. It's not like he's on his feet lugging it around all day. Just chuck a few massive bottles in the van and you're off. Asking your customers for anything on their doorstop is rather intrusive and won't reflect well on the company. Well done for giving him some water though.

That's like a story you'd hear from the Soviet Union - where every detail of operation down to when and how you eat, drink and **** are regulated and on a schedule. Crazy.

Nobody is stopping the guy taking water with him on his shift

Surely it's down to the drivers to adequately stock up on water beforehand so they don't have to ask?

this really...

if he's really suffering then from a health and safety perspective he should stop and buy some - it isn't too unsurprising that they'd not want them requesting it from customers though then again if he's obviously not looking in good shape then it is polite to offer

but really it is the sort of thing you ought to take with you in that sort of work in the first place

I'd assume they're also not supposed to ask to use the toilet at customer's houses either

or just issue them with a couple of big water bottles and provide taps/water fountains + remind everyone to fill up with adequate water in hot weather

(saves people needlessly using so much plastic)

If it was me I would have charged him for the water. I would then of started charging everyone else as well, such as the post man and the bin men once they inevitability start asking for water. To stop them constantly using my glasses I would purchase clear plastic bottles and fill them up with water ready so I dont have to keep going to and from the kitchen. I would then lazily write ev.one on the label so people walking past know it's for everyone and not just post men and delivery men who can buy the water I have stored on my window sill. I will later change the label from ev.one to Evian to try and attract the insurance sellers who knock on my door with the exotic sounding fancy water.

It is totally legal. They are allowed water but not allowed to ask customers and are required to wait for their break before spending time within work-hours to refill their water.

It is certainly unreasonable but also unsurprising.

Good going OP

So all office workers never take on liquid, or go to make/get a drink outside their official break time? ROFL Harris tie me kangaroo down sport!;)

Well done OP, heat like this can kill.
