Weekend football - 1st-3rd November **Spoilers**

Was that it from the BBC? No replay of the dubious looking decision for the freekick for Hull's first, no mention of the fact they should have had 10 men, and the punditry seemed to consist of "Hull almost did it. Utd won. Well here's Chelsea."

I agree. The first free kick decision was a joke. The penalty was extremely harsh. Ferdinand was simply running for the ball but started slipping to the side and there legs got tangled up. 50/50 if you ask me. Hull should have been down to 10 men.

Then saying that, the second goal was terrible defending by evra and united really should have had about 8 goals if they could learn to finish properly.

Oh well, thats football.

glad they won in the end:D

Other players may be able to throw it as far but he throws it in flat and the fact that Stoke are a team of giants helps too.

What, that Hull player was skinning Ferdinand, he knew what he was doing.

We did fall apart a little and in particular I thought Vidic and Rooney were terrible but these decisons didn't help.
There was some slight contact/obstruction and so technically it was the correct decision but it was the kind of thing which goes unpunished usually, so the lack of consistency is frustrating.
The free kick however I considered wrong and also the failure to send off the Hull player was inexcusable - it was an easy decision.
MoTD's not covering these issues was odd but I guess to focus on Hulls position is the better story.

Couple of very bad decisions by the ref and liner in the Portsmouth - Wigan match.

I was at the game, and Pompey were unlucky with all the balls hitting the bar and cleared off the line. But they did lack some sharpness and I think Wigan had more edge. Palacios and Valencia really impressed me, the latter was defo not offside when he "scored". Some great saves by Kirkland too. Crap weather too.

I support united but even I have to admit it was a penalty, if it happened outside the box it would've been a freekick, it happened in the box so it's a penalty.

Unfortunately that wasn't true about Chelsea this season either.

Well you seem to be struggling considerably less than the other "top four" teams

Arsenal are currently pretty shocking at both ends of the field (missing a load of chances as well as being weak at the back....and potentially disintegrating from the inside if reports of in-fighting are true)

Liverpool without Torres are 1/2 the team they should be - good (rather than brilliant) chances are wasted, and suspect at the back but not as shaky as Arsenal or Man U - Carra's own goal is just one of those things (funny though that it was him particularly :D) , Liverpool are just as likely to drop stupid points as they are to get a really good win (ie like at SB last weekend)

Man Utd are relying on luck at the moment - 1/2 a dozen or more decent chances yesterday wasted for one reason or another, but even more worrying is going from arguably the best back five in the league (as a combination rather than individually) to rookies on parade - albeit with WB not playing currently. No disrespect to Hull's goals or Everton's but we should be a lot better in this regard, and we are playing like schoolboys (I dread to think what Celtic will do to our defence when our defence is like this)

Nice try there by Vidic but you could see that it had crossed the line from the look on his face, lol.

As for the penalty - well, i've seen worse than that let off but i've also seen less than that given. Overall I think it was very 50/50 - both players getting in each other's way.

But overall i'm still just glad we got 3 points on a day when 2 of our main challengers both lost.

+1

I didnt see much wrong with Vidic for their first goal (from the free kick), but yur right about the 2nd

I dont remember seeing Rooney's "goal" - that was discounted for offside on MOTD, or the foul on Carrick near their box (sounded like a definite 2nd yellow from the commentary I heard), some refereeing was .....strange, but very glad of the 3 points

A little concerned with GD currently though

Anyone else think Anelka's goal that he stole off Alex was the most blatantly offside goal of all time?

1) He was offside when the intial ball was played into the box, didn't go straight to him so fair enough you don't always see those given.
2) When Alex plays the ball, he's in front of him and almost level with the Keeper, never mind the last defender. The fact that the ball would have gone in the net anyway is irrelevant; as soon as Anelka touches it he becomes active. If I was a Sunderland fan I'd be seething.

edit: video here if anyone wants to see for themselves and pause it etc, skip to 01:00 in: http://www.fliggo.com/video/jqXvfC6B

It was offside and the commentators said so at the time, probably wouldn't have mattered much though if it was correctly disallowed:)

Fair play to the Spuds, they kept going till the end, and to be fair our luck had to run out sometime.

Rafa deffo cocked it up, we had great rhythm for much of the second half with Keano and Gerrard linking well, why he changed it so early i just cant understand. Its similar to last season where we created loads and loads of chances, and didnt put them away and oaid for it in the end.

Spurs seem to be playing for Harry now, they are still weak as **** at the back and Gomes proved he can be a decent keeper, Reina seriously lost his head tho:(

It was a free kick, the BBC didnt show Vidic pulling kings shirt off his back, rooney was onside by about a yard when the ball was played through to him for his goal, and the hull player should have been sent off for persistent fouling long before he hacked Carrick down.

The amount of high challenges the Referee was letting them get away with was rather troubling, on more than one occasion hull players went in with studs up on players trying to play the ball, and doing it from behind as well.

That and the Arsenal result makes 9 points out of the 13 you have. You didn't score against Liverpool, so that makes only 3 points gained by anything other than tapping in Delap's throws. Come on, that's pretty one-trick.

I'm not saying you shouldn't use it, or even arguing against it. It works, why change? I'm actually just surprised no-one seems to be able to organise themselves enough to stop it.

Funny thing with that is stoke have taken 4 points off 3 of the top four and hull have only taken 3 points. I understand why hull get all the plaudits though.

Also they have scored 2 penalties and fullers goal against villa was quality.

You could also argue that most of hulls goals come from set peices.

I was only trying to indicate that arsenal wouldnt be able to keep a clean sheet (think it was friday on this thread)

All this talk doesn't matter as I would say its pretty clear Chelsea are going to win the league if not champs league as well if they can keep the starting 11 fit!

And it doesn't matter that Anelka was offside as Sunderland still didn't have a chance lol
