Weekend Football Thread 23-26 *spoilers*

Liverpool probably deserved to win (I cant believe Im saying that) but certainly not by 2-0

ref was idiotic in the extreme - if he never darkens the EPL again I will be happy

Several points of note

1) Ref was so blatantly pro Liverpool in the first half its unreal
2) Giggs not getting a penalty for the elbow in the back
3) Mascherano deserved to get sent off far earlier than he did
4) Carragher not being sent off when its a blatant goal scoring / last defender scenario

I still think Torres gets the decision far more than he should (trip over your own foot and you get a free kick and on count back get someone booked)

VDS made a stunning double save and then for the first goal kinda ignored the obvious choice and knelt instead of standing tall

Considering Liverpool should have atleast been down to 9 men before Vidic was sent off (even though I think one yellow on the 1/2 way line was very harsh) thats terrible refereeing

the Cara incident i said he's off, whereas masch should not have got a second yellow, shame VD had to simulate a foul but hey thats football!
.

Because Torres never does that of course

Always great to beat the mancs :D

Thought Carra played brilliantly. He's been under a lot of criticism this season, and for good reason too IMO. He showed that he has still got it, and even though he could have been sent off, I still would have wanted him to stop Owen from going through.

Lol at the mancs claiming the ref was pro Liverpool. He was terrible and gave poor decisions both ways the entire game.

Just because you keep saying its going to be alright doesnt make it so.

The midfield is weak, we have nothing going down the wings, and we offer nothing going forward.
We are just about good enough to beat the average teams, but against EVERY decent side this season, we have been atrocious.

Yeah, I agree the midfield could do with some added strength, but I don't feel United played their best midfield today. Anderson has looked very good recently.

United beaten Arsenal, and lost to Liverpool this season, they're the only decent sides United have played.

He played well and in all fairness he's looked far better when we've come up against the bigger sides. Away to Utd and Arsenal in the league and Chelsea in the CL were probably his 3 best performances last season.
He looks far better when he gets time and space and today, against slow & slower, he had loads. Still don't think he's that suited to the speed of the Premiership though. Reckon he'd be fantastic for an Italian club.

What an utterly ridiculous display of officiating. I'd understand missing the odd dive but Liverpool were allowed to run rampant with fouling, simulating, etc.

Quite how Carragher got a yellow for that is beyond me.

Congratulations Liverpool, but put a good referee in an identical game and you'd have gotten nowhere.

Oh come on he did at least 4 fouls today, being very generous to him.

Possibly 3-4 actual fouls but plenty of times where he clearly won the ball or didn't even make a challenge a free-kick was given.
Liverpool probably deserved to win (I cant believe Im saying that) but certainly not by 2-0
Sorry Frank but did you actually watch the game? 2-0 was generous to Utd.

1)Ref was so blatantly crap its unreal
2) Kuyt not getting a penalty for the push in the back
3) Vidic deserved to get sent off far earlier than he did

Fixed but I'll let you have the 4th point.

Congratulations Liverpool, but put a good referee in an identical game and you'd have gotten nowhere.

I have to agree, same with Mash except he's a far better player.

They could have both been sent off today for lots of niggling tackles in the midfield, Mash was silly right at the end.

Masch was unlucky not silly. He slid to block the ball and his momentum took him into VDS who made sure he didn't get out of the way. No real arguements because they can go either way but he didn't do anything particularly wrong. And like Lucas most of his 'fouls' werent.

the other thing I would like to add is that that ref very kindly papered over Liverpool's obvious cracks

Even if Gerrard is back for the Lyon game (and Im sure he will be) I still think that game will knock you out of the CL - given that only a win will really do

Why is Mannone still here? His nose distracts me from the action because it's so huge, and I think that Almunia is more reliable anyway. Every time Mannone is near the ball I get nervous.

Oh and Diaby AND Eboue on at the same time? All aboard the Failboat.

With or without the ref, we were all over them! Carragher one was debatable; at first sight I thought that Agger and Johnson could probably have got back, when I saw the replay I was less sure. Anyway, we were already winning by then, and could have just thrown on Skrtel for 5 mins to fill the hole.

Lucas didn't do a lot wrong, I can recall a couple of mistimed tackles. Until Mascherano's first booking it's the same with him.

And the troll calls me bitter. :D

Not really. After a comment like yours, saying you were bitter was being nice. The officials were certainly not the difference in the game like you've tried to make out and most sensible Utd fans have and will accept that.

Sorry Frank but did you actually watch the game? 2-0 was generous to Utd.

I was in a "Liverpool" pub lol

No it really wasnt generous - you where pretty *** infront of goal as much as we where

the good save by VDS was the only real chance you had before the actual goal, and the 2nd (considering you should have been down to 9 by then) shouldnt have really occured in the first place

And the bitter supporters start appearing.

So did Lucas then but hey whos counting ---in fact the ref seeminly totally forgot what he was there for in the 1st half when Liverpool did anything wrong lol

Mash didn't need to slide he didn't need to make that tackle with been on a yellow. He must have known if he touches VDS he'll be sent off.

RE: Lucas / Mash who could have both been dismissed / booked earlier on. You'll never take your rose tinted specs off and vise versa.

The Ref was very poor.
