Weekend Football Thread 23-26 *spoilers*

I was in a "Liverpool" pub lol

No it really wasnt generous - you where pretty *** infront of goal as much as we where

the good save by VDS was the only real chance you had before the actual goal, and the 2nd (considering you should have been down to 9 by then) shouldnt have really occured in the first place

Other than the Valencia shot from a tight angel, you never looked like scoring. Ourselves on the other hand had plenty of opportunities throughout the game. And surely the fact that we were **** in front of goal and still scored twice suggest that 2-0 may have been generous to you?

With or without the ref, we were all over them! Carragher one was debatable; at first sight I thought that Agger and Johnson could probably have got back, when I saw the replay I was less sure. Anyway, we were already winning by then, and could have just thrown on Skrtel for 5 mins to fill the hole.

Lucas didn't do a lot wrong, I can recall a couple of mistimed tackles. Until Mascherano's first booking it's the same with him.

Torres was diving a LOT as well - no wonder Vidic is scared of him as whenever the ball comes near them he throws himself to the ground and gets a foul for it.

Once Liverpool could see that the persistent fouling (especially in midfield - Benayoun/Mascherano were quick to tackle their counterparts but not very good at it) it just spurred them on.

If Vidic's last year was a red then Carragher's was also without a doubt. I don't see how anyone can argue that.

Whether the ref was biased or not, he didn't have a clue at all.

If they keep their heads, West Ham could get back into this. They've not been pushovers so far. We need to slow the game down a bit I reckon, hold onto possession.

Not really. After a comment like yours, saying you were bitter was being nice. The officials were certainly not the difference in the game like you've tried to make out and most sensible Utd fans have and will accept that.

There are too many fans on here who would rather just agree with you than bother getting into it, for obvious reasons.

The game was won in midfield, where Scholes/Carrick were getting fouled without punishment.

I'm not saying it was or wasn't a red but it's not comparable to Vidic's last season (possibly the first yellow he got at Anfield though). Owen was running away from goal and Johnson was possibly in a position to get back. Nobody was close to stopping Gerrard and he was in prime position to have a shot on goal. Again, it could have gone either way.

Agreed about the ref, he was terrible and it didn't suprise me. He was our ref vs West Ham and had a shocker.

Vidic was the last man for 30 yards last year, not see a decent replay of the Carragher but Owen was going away from the goal and not sure how far the nearest player was.

Whenever Utd lose, why is there always mass arguing?

Read a good article that Fergie always rants when they lose and he will try to take away pressure and the spot light on the teams performance, same with the 2-2 Sunderland game and brought the fitness of refs into the papers for weeks.

T'was a red :p

Owen was through to shoot on goal, Johnson was nowhere, he was in his RB position. Owen's not quick but he'd of turned and shot. Carra was very lucky. He knows it ;)

Ref wasn't biased, he was just awful.

I agree that the game was won and lost in midfield. Scholes and Carrick couldn't cope with the energy of Lucas and Masch. I don't agree that it was down to the ref not giving fouls etc, in fact i thought he was a little whistle happy at times.

Your post just seemed funny. Not the sort of thing I'd expect from a typical football supporter :)

Well done Liverpool, I thought you deserved to win, although the general quality from both teams today was pretty ordinary.
However, it's frustrating to see such a poor display from the referee (again) and also to see SAF shoot his team in the foot (again).
Firstly, two penalty appeals were not given. I can understand why (they were not clear cut) but personally I felt they were both penalty's.
Jamie Carragher's foul was a red card all day long, last man and denied a clear goal scoring chance. It was text book.
Lucas had about 40 fouls given against him but no card?
Torres went to ground so, so easily and was told to get up time after time but again, no card?
But I have no complaints about Vidic's red.
Well no complaints about the decision.
But questions must be asked as to why he keeps getting exposed in such a way against liverpool. We are clearly not protecting our defence well enough against runs from deep from Torres and the midfield.
Starting with Scholes was a recipe for disaster in this respect.
Without Fletcher, we desperately needed Andersons pace and work rate in the middle.
But I can forgive the team selection to start with.
But having gotten to half time, lucky to be level, I was very annoyed to see no change to this area.
Instead we waited until it was too late before making any attempt at addressing the problem and even then it was the wrong change.
Also, does Rafa ever sit down? It's kinda weird how he stays on the pitch side all match barking his orders at players who ignore him, all the while making sure he gets himself on camera..

Kind of makes sense then. Take the attention away from the teams performance and pin the loss on anything else.
