Weekend Football Thread 23-26 *spoilers*

I'm not saying it was or wasn't a red but it's not comparable to Vidic's last season (possibly the first yellow he got at Anfield though). Owen was running away from goal and Johnson was possibly in a position to get back. Nobody was close to stopping Gerrard and he was in prime position to have a shot on goal. Again, it could have gone either way.

Agreed about the ref, he was terrible and it didn't suprise me. He was our ref vs West Ham and had a shocker.

Of course it was comparable. Gerrard skinned Vidic a new one and Vidic held him back. Carragher's was similar to something I saw in the Six Nations, lol.

And Owen would also have been in a prime position to "have a shot on goal" - it was a clear opportunity and he should have gone for it.

Also i'd like to add that Vidic's first wasn't a yellow either - Torres going down far too easily. :)

And what in god's name did Berbatov do to get a yellow? Ridiculous.

Vidic was the last man for 30 yards last year, not see a decent replay of the Carragher but Owen was going away from the goal and not sure how far the nearest player was.

You guys are making out as if he was running to the corner flag with the ball. He was going into the box although running slightly at an angle, but with the nearest other pool defender about 5 metres away, he would have had a shot ongoal if not for the challenge.
Do agree that man utd were poor and probably deserved the loss, but the ref was very reluctant in handing out cards to pool players

Come on Arsenal !!! We need a second to make it safe, Cole is playing well !

Gerrard?

*edit* soz. Really should read the whole post.

Looking good for the ARSE then so far from that game. I'm huge fan of Woy Hodgeson. Done amazing things at Fulham.

Yeah, we need to keep him really, his contract expires next season. We should be winning this game, two easy chances Fulham have wasted.

Well done Liverpool, I thought you deserved to win, although the general quality from both teams today was pretty ordinary.
However, it's frustrating to see such a poor display from the referee (again) and also to see SAF shoot his team in the foot (again).
Firstly, two penalty appeals were not given. I can understand why (they were not clear cut) but personally I felt they were both penalty's.
Jamie Carragher's foul was a red card all day long, last man and denied a clear goal scoring chance. It was text book.
Lucas had about 40 fouls given against him but no card?
Torres went to ground so, so easily and was told to get up time after time but again, no card?
But I have no complaints about Vidic's red.
Well no complaints about the decision.
But questions must be asked as to why he keeps getting exposed in such a way against liverpool. We are clearly not protecting our defence well enough against runs from deep from Torres and the midfield.
Starting with Scholes was a recipe for disaster in this respect.
Without Fletcher, we desperately needed Andersons pace and work rate in the middle.
But I can forgive the team selection to start with.
But having gotten to half time, lucky to be level, I was very annoyed to see no change to this area.
Instead we waited until it was too late before making any attempt at addressing the problem and even then it was the wrong change.
Also, does Rafa ever sit down? It's kinda weird how he stays on the pitch side all match barking his orders at players who ignore him, all the while making sure he gets himself on camera..

Is it a poem?

T'was a red :p

Owen was through to shoot on goal, Johnson was nowhere, he was in his RB position. Owen's not quick but he'd of turned and shot. Carra was very lucky. He knows it ;)

Johnson actually ran inside Carra and Owen, he wasn't in the rb position. At best Owen would have been shooting from a fairly tight angle and probably under some kind of challenge by Johnson. It wasn't a straight forward decision but I wouldn't have been suprised had it been given.

Your post just seemed funny. Not the sort of thing I'd expect from a typical football supporter :)

I don't get involved with league football and I only really play attention to football during international tournaments. But I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the game so thought I would share how entertained I was :D

You really do make it sound like Owen was in no mans land lol

Owen was rugby tackled on the edge of the area, had the tackle not come in he'd of turned and shot. Johnson was nowhere and in no position to be affecting play.

Carra was either last man and / or denying a goal scoring opportunity. T'was a red :p

Who cares, Liverpool were better over 90 mins + poor standard of officiating.

We'll agree to disagree about the Carra incident. As for Vidic's first yellow, I'd imagine it was a result of several previous fouls, 2 of which were worthy of yellows in their own right.

Come to think of it, Vidic could have been given a straight red for his 2nd. Kuyt was clean through on goal and seemingly nobody within 15 yards of him. I guess the distance between him and the goal saved Vidic from that though.

haha i love reading man united supporters comments after a match, can never just accept the fact they lost, always has to be 100 questions and 100 excuses :D

(im not a liverpool, or any other premiership team supporter by the way and i did watch the match before anyone starts barking at me)

Listening on the radio just isn't the same! I'm seriously going to have to invest in ATVO soon. :(

EDIT:

0-2!
