He went down through no fault of the defenders and appealed to the referee for a foul, how is that not deceiving the referee?
It was a dive though, his intention was, start to finish, to grab the players shirt to make it appear like his arm was being held by the player rather than him holding the defenders shirt, then go down under this premise with the intention of getting a penalty, thats what he did. It was a dive, and then for good measure he kicked out at the defender.
What I would have liked to see was rather than a couple frequent cheats like Terry and Rooney coming out and claiming no England players cheat or dive, only to unsurprisingly see both commit fouls and Rooney to dive right after saying he's never intended to in his life, I'd like to see the MANAGER come out and say England WON'T cheat and any players that do won't be starting the next game.
The thing of it is, if you do compare it to Eduardo's dive, he was going for the ball, had the ball and then went down last second when the ball was going out. Rooney before the ball got to him had already decided to pretend he was being fouled by the defender, he'd already decided he was going down and not even going to try for the ball before the ball arrived. It was premeditated, his intention start to finish was to cheat without even trying to get the ball. Same can't be said of Eduardo's dive, which makes Rooney's far more cynical IMHO.
But a game against a fairly poor side where a ridiculous decision pretty much silenced the opposition, don't look remotely close to good enough to win the world cup, no changes, no improvements, no dropping of cheats or, simply poor players, no starting players in form, no giving unestablished players real time on the pitch with the rest of the first team to see what they can do, utter waste of time.
