Police will investigate an incident in which a steward was injured by a flying object after a controversial goal celebration from Premier League footballer Emmanuel Adebayor.
The striker ran the full length of the pitch at Eastlands after scoring Manchester City's third goal in their 4-2 win over his former club Arsenal.
He deliberately celebrated in front of the Gunners' fans, who had jeered him throughout the match.
Police and stewards stepped in when the crowd surged forward in response to the antics of the 25-year-old Togo international.
A steward was then hit on the head with the unknown flying object and needed hospital treatment, police said.
A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: "The steward received a head injury from a flying object which appeared to have been thrown from the direction of the away end.
"We were told the steward was unconscious for a few seconds before being taken to hospital and later discharged."
Police will now launch an investigation into the assault, the spokesman added.
Although Adebayor apologised for his celebration after the match, it is expected to be referred to the FA.
He said: "To be honest, I'm very sorry for all this. Sometimes, the emotion takes over. That's what happened. I was very happy to score the goal.
"Before the game, people have been saying and writing things and the emotions took over. People who love me and know me know how I behave."
Six arrests were made after the game for a range of offences including assault, drunken disorder and possession of drugs.
