Weekend Football Thread. *spoilers* 22nd-24th

It's nervous times for Liverpool if they lose a couple more games, especially for Rafa.

Still, nobody can call anything yet really, if we base it on whats happening so far then Tottenham or Arsenal are going to win the league, doubt that will happen........................

.....but you never know

United, if Ferguson insists on playing players out of position, and continually tries to shoehorn the woeful Park and the past it Giggs into the same side, and if he doesnt reinforce the midfield, defence and strikeforce will NOT finish any higher than third.
The only reason I can see that he wont spend (or more probably cant), is that this is most probably his last season and he is operating under certain spending constraints.
Because it certainly isnt because the squad is strong enough.

As for liverpool loosing, a loss is a loss, and thats 2 in only three games, doesnt leave a lot of room for title winning.

Writing off the manager now are we?

I'm asking the question by the way ;)

Aye, the reason I'm refusing to consider Arsenal's start as that good is that we've played two utterly woeful defences (one by form, one by standard). If we can take it to Man Utd as well as we did in those games, then I might get a bit more excited about things.

At the beginning of last season the media were hailing Chelsea as the best team in the world whilst Man.U. were in dire straits apparently, that says it all really:)

This.

It must be of some concern that Rafa has described this weekends game against Bolton as a "must win". People around the club must be somewhat nervous that we are already talking about must win games on the 4th game of the season.

Irrespective of performance, there must be some looking at the matches so far and thinking...2 defeats out of 3..hmm..that wasnt supposed to happen. I reckon there are a few nerves a tingling at the moment

Man Utd always start slow though, its expected now and not a big deal, I am surprised that we have won 2 of the 3 really, I was expecting 1 win and 2 draws so 6 points instead of 4 is great news.

Surely that would be 5 points :p

Man Utd may start slow but who honestly thinks they should have lost to Burnley

I don't think the managers know their best teams as of yet. Liverpool seem to be a bit light on the bench and Man Utd seem to be a bit thin there too. Chelsea are looking decent but not so great defensively :p I'm wondering when Zhirkov will get a game, is he injured?

I'm wondering when Zhirkov will get a game, is he injured?

Yes, picked up an injury pre-season.

I'm still not happy with chelsea's formation.

For me there are noticable weaknesses in all of the top 4 teams.

I'll start with

Liverpool
Liverpool clearly lack depth in terms of strikers. Porn star and Ngog aren't going to come off the bench and change a game. I also think Xabi Alonso will be dearly missed by Liverpool. I'm not a huge fan of Liverpool's center backs. As good as Carragher is I don't think Skrtel or Agger cut it at the top level.

Manchester United
For me United have to many 'average' players that start too often. Examples of these are Giggs, Scholes, Park, O'Shea, Anderson, Fletcher, Neville. (I'm not debating that the likes of Scholes and Giggs were quality players, there will be debate over Anderson but imo he's highly overrated. I think Fletcher is a good player but Hargreaves is far superior) Saying that they have the likes of Rooney, Berbatov, Vidic, Ferdinand, Evra, VDS etc who are all top draw. Another obvious weakness is the lose of Ronaldo but that goes without saying.

Chelsea
Grrr, I'm not a fan of the diamond formation. For me Ballack is passed it and Malouda is simply not good enough. (I admit he has progressed a lot, evidence of this was the 2 legs vs Barca) I'd like to see a 4-5-1 formation with Zhirkov on the left , J.Cole on the right, Mikel holding and Essien / Lampard in the middle with Drogba up top. Sure Anelka is a good player but I just can't see the diamond formation working against teams with a strong midfield. Saying that I do believe chelsea have the strongest squad in the league.

Arsenal
This is an easy one. Defensive midfielder anyone? Song does not fit the bill I'm afraid and because of this Arsenal will finish no higher than 4th.

Whilst I'm at it...

Spurs

Spurs finally have a very strong starting line-up.

Gomes, Corluka, King , Bassong, Assou- Ekotto, Modric , Jenas, Palacios, Lennon, Keane, Defoe.

I can't really see any weaknesses in that team and with the likes of Cudicini, Crouch, Chimbonda, Woodgate, Huddlestone and Bently on the bench they really have a genuine chance to challenge Arsenal for 4th position.

Still going with

1-Chelsea
2-Manchester United
3-Liverpool
4-Arsenal

Remarkable that people still think Arsenal are the team in danger, haven't any of you watched Arsenal this season, and a more pertinent question, have you seen Liverpool play!?

Well you probably haven't watched many Arsenal games, since you said Song doesn't fit the bill when he's been MotM or thereabouts for Arsenal's 3 games and for many towards the end of last season

Don't think Arsenal will win the league but they're better than anybody outside the Top 4 (obviously proven in the Everton game)

You honestly think he's in the same league as Essien, Mascherano or Hargreaves?

If so you need to stop deluding yourself.

Hardly proven at all actually not when outside the top 4 you now have a decent Spurs side and a Man City and after last night who knows maybe even Villa

Don't care who the Top 4 are this year..

but the traditional top 4 are under more threat this year it seems,

given Liverpools start, Tottenhams start and Man Citys funds (and off to a decent enough start)

Man City won't challenge anybody, possibly Spurs. Villa weren't good last night, Liverpool were poor :) Villa won't be near the Top 4 this year

No but I don't think Carrick is in the same league as Fabregas, Lampard, Gerrard but it doesn't mean that Man Utd are going to come 4th because Carrick isn't as good as the other teams comparative players, your logic is flawed

He also cost £1m, not £20m+ and is 21, give the lad a chance ..

You wont give Anderson a chance and he's only 21
