** Weekend Football Thread ** *spoilers*

Nice easy won for us, quite glad that we despatched Boro pretty easily altho lets be honest the first goal shouldnt have counted as that muppet Bendy boy was offside and then Boro should have had a penalty again due to Bender leaning into the ball...how the ref did not give a penalty is well and truly beyond me.

Arshavin is awesome...the guy is something else...really impressed with his work ethic and those 4 goals he scored against Liverpool were just simply sublime. Cant wait for a full season from him...barring injury. Whats a shame is that he cant play in the CL as hes cup tied...should have signed before Jan Wenger;). But im hoping next season we will have a better season without many injuries...which have ruined our season this yr.

Looking forward to the CL semi on Wed...hoping we do one over on Man Utd.

I thought Theo was pretty good, it certainly looks like he's finding the form he had before injury, and let's face it, even when he isn't playing very well he's still extremely dangerous. I'm really happy he's been given a shot this season and he seems a lot more comfortable in the first team, in terms of attacking, Arsenal are really good at the minute, but obviously the real test will be against Vidic and Ferdinand!

YOU'RE ALL WRONG. WAIT TIL THEY COME UP AGAINST JOHN O'SHEA

Theo was ok, bit patchy. Arshavin was great until near the end when he was obviously nackered and started losing his touch a bit. That shot which ended up over by the corner flag had me giggling and then he completely missed the ball just aftwerwards :p

Predictions for tonight?

I think the geordies will win 3-0, not that i want them too...

Got a £5 bet on newcastle to win £10 back and £4 on Reading to beat norwich £9 back

My prediction for tonight: hair-loss and no finger nails!

I can't really make a prediction without seeing the line-up. One thing I do know is this; if we waste free-kicks, corners and crosses like we did against Spurs we don't stand a chance.

It's got to be number 1 in Football 101, when you cross a ball into the box (from any position) you have to beat the first defender. We lost the ability to do that about 2 seasons ago and have got progressively worse ever since.

I don't know why they don't sort it out but it makes me livid every time I see them punt the ball into the first man like that!

Enrique is back so I predict better defence down the left but Taylor is out so we're going to be weaker in the centre. However, I expect to see Beye and Basong holding the fort so we *should* be all right defensively as long as the midfield don't capitulate completely.

If Owen starts then he's going to need better support from the midfield because he spent most of the game against Spurs far too deep. If Martins and Viduka start (my preferred centre-forward pairing at the moment) then we should see a few more chances. However, I think 3-0 is very optimistic.

I watched the game and I agree with Drunkenranter.

Theo didn't do much, didn't impress me, and did give the ball away.

I really didn't think he gave the ball away that much, it only seemed to happen when he'd get to a decent crossing area and he's have to stop as no one else was in the box.

He does track back, drunkmaster is talking rubbish about that.

One of the best things about having Theo on the wings is that it makes the oposing team's full back's scared to go forward incase they can't get back, effectively pinning him in, you see it often.

I can't see Newcastle winning, I think they're down tbh.

Newcastle have only won 4 at home all season, now all of a sudden they are going to comfortably beat out a mid table team like Portsmouth no worries according to some.

I'm with you, I can only see a draw at best unless the Newcastle players actually play with some pride for a change.

Anyone watching the Newcastle game? Have you noticed how compact all the players are in the middle of the park whenever James has a goal kick? I don't think I've ever seen so many players so close to each other. It's bloomin' weird I tells ye!

Newcastle have had the better opportunities to score, Viduka and Martins, even a few attempts from Smith outside the box could have resulted in a goal but seeing as the commentators have mentioned he hasn't scored in 3 and a half years he probably won't be scoring any time soon. Has it really been that long though since his last goal?
