Wet pc's and insurance companies..

I just had a similar situation with Abbey and "the source" and I refused to let them touch the machine as I felt the offer was derisory and the person i spoke to at there end did not have a clue even though he was "an I.T technician" they wanted me to send my machine to them with the watercooling system fully filled so they could see where it had leaked.

after 6 weeks of messing about going back and forth and having cunninham lindsey (investigation company) out to interview me they have settled on sending me a cheque for £2200 based on a spec from OCUK.

luckily it was only my media PC rather than my main machine but the wait has been killing me.

Just keep at them and they will see things your way m8

Thanks for the words of wisdom so far. I have emailed the full spec to the source and they should be getting back to me today.

How did you get OCUK to spec you a similar pc? Can someone put this in motion or let me have an email address to send to.

A couple of options would be nice via email then i can send them off and see what happens, and of course i will be spending the money with the right company...

Cash would have been nice as i was thinking of a conroe system, but i guess the 3.0 prescott is still current?, how about the AGP x850 though, isnt that now dead and they should be supplying a current pci-e gfx card and board?

Ive emailed the company back and put a link to this thread in it...

Im not greedy, just want what im paying for.. Dont think i will continue the £1500 pc cover though anymore...

I think you spec it yourself or get one of us to spec it for you and then send it off to them. Or maybe the prebuilt range?

Presuming it's 'new for old', I don't see why you can't have Conroe rig. Same goes for PCI-E graphics card.

I just filled a shopping basket to replace the items and mailed it off to the insurers and they checked the items against the reciepts I still had and wrote the cheque.

doing that now..

i kinda just chucked this together as a rough equal, thoughts people?

I know some of the bits mite not be to alls tast but its easy to make the insurance understand if the makes are the same.. guessed on the ram front though as i aint a clue anymore..

HELP"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

tell them you want a like for like replacment of parts.

Seems like they have a load of cheap pre-built PC's that they need to get rid of. All your original components are well known brands so you want the same...It's like them replacing a BMW with a Lada.

Send them a link to something pre-built from the OCUK shop seeing that they are insisting on pre-built.

Dan

I'm having same issue with my insurance co, because my PC is a bit older (athlon 3000 etc) they wanted to replace it with a £300 dell, but without my OCz ram, Abit mobo, Geforce 6600GT graphics card etc

You might be in luck my friend, I actually work for the source claim support and am actually at work there now.

any questions i can answer?

Also you are correct, you are not being offered like for like, this may be for more than one reason but should be sorted as that is not a fair replacment.

Hope you can help me then mate!!

Not being funny or anything i just want the spec the same as the one i had before, or a cheque or whatever..

Nothing to do with the source but i will be changing my house insurance after this as i pay extra for the pc as an individual item upto the value of £1500

O.k. I have found your claim and your original system, you are being dealt with in the walsall branch and they are currently getting a tech to look into it.

You should get a call back from them today.

Thanks Colbaker will wait and see...

Although a techi has been looking at it for 2 weeks and i keep getting promised calls...

But we are all busy is guess, especialy in big business..

Dont suppose you can make it into a conroe of some sort when its comes back!! :p

im still unsure how you work out like for like on these pc's.. mines 12 months old now at least..

This would be about right performance wise imo, I'd be happy with it, but it really depends if they are going by the value of that tech now or when it was purchased. If it is just to provide equal performance then the E6600/X1800 XT system you specced is WAY OTT.
