What are the 30 year old plus gamers playing?

Replayed Freelancer finally (HD mod is fantastic) then after finishing it I went looking for modern games with a similar feel. Star Citizen and Elite: Dangerous are total money pits and require too much playtime to get to a decent level, not interested. Underspace 2 is very freelancer-esque but it's obviously from a small team and is still in need of a fair amount of polish, but it is playable. I bought it and will check back every year or so and once it's had some polish I will give it a proper go. Everspace 2 is really good, polished, mature, no bugs, but a little expensive compared to its replay value I'd say (YMMV), get this if you have the cash to spare and like space combat.

Starfield was a complete non-starter from a space combat point of view, the ship building is decent until you realise it's all pointless because the ship-based combat feels like an after-thought. Just crap. If you like the idea of fallout in space then go for it, if you're mainly interested in space combat don't bother.

Anyone found any other modern-ish space combat games that are decent?

Have a look at Starsector, if you are into space combat then this is an exceptionally deep game for that. It is 2D top down not 3D but do not let that put you off, it is a superb game. And I feel obliged to point out that Elite Dangerous is many things but it isn't really a money pit, certainly not compared to SC, but that's just me.

Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader - Playing it through Nvidia GeForce Now Ultimate and my PC copy of the game via Steam and the performance is splendid. No fan noise, nothing as it's streaming.

First time I have re-tried this cloud gaming approach since the pandemic and the performance leap using a 4080 in the cloud is enormous.

My latency from Spain to the Paris servers is 60-100ms.

Is rogue trader any good? I love crpgs but I've never been into warhammer. I prefer fantasy stuff.

My fave CRPG since BG2. The music is especially excellent but in holding off another playthrough until both dlcs are out and also because they've massively changed the mechanics a few times already.

Ah good shout, I'll wait till august then. The dlc is throughout the game so I'd rather play fresh with bug fixes and the dlc.

There's one in December too. I wasn't aware of Owlcats history so next time I shall wait for a complete edition.
And the problem is that the DLC is integrated into the main story. So like I probably wouldn't want to play until before out and I was starting from scratch because I don't know at what point they integrate.

That's the problem I have! I'm not one to play a game through multiple times, I've got a **** memory but when its triggered I'll remember an insane amount like a chain reaction until I forget 5 minutes later. Makes watching films again a pain too.

They did DLC like this with wrath of the righteous too, I haven't played them yet because they start halfway through =/

Yep. Pain in the ass.

I'm also waiting until the DLC hits. Think it's due in August ?

It's absolutely brilliant.

I am previously a Divinity, XCOM, Shadowrun player (I played them all to death).

The storyline takes it easy on the player and then warms up nicely at the end of Chapter 1, its not like XCOM 2 where it kicks your ass from 10 minutes into the game.
