I have both and would recommend the 360 over the PS3 as a games machine. If you aren't bothered about the PS3 exclusives (MGS leaves me cold for example) then the 360 is the better overall games machine. Most multiformat games seem to run better on it too.

Maybe you should call sony and get a replacement as you obviously have a malfunctioned PS3. They aren't all like that.
Here's how you decide: get a brick and put it next to your tv. If you are not happy with it, get a ps3 
Seriously, it does come down to what you want. The PS3 is clearly the superior machine, but the 360 has a bigger games catalog and a more evolved online experience. However, if you:
a.) don't have infinite time and funds to play this massive back catalog, or
b.) don't want to pay for what you get free with PS3
Then get a PS3. I'd say only get a 360 if all your friends have them or you can't afford a PS3.

You can't really go wrong with either..
There are plenty of good exclusives for both, and there will be plenty more good exclusives in the future..
Whichever you buy, you will be missing out on some exclusives on the other console..
My advice, don't even think twice, get the 360 now, and when the PS3 actually comes down to a reasonable price, then get that too.. !

My console was manufactured Feb 2006 and it's still going strong
By the sounds of it you're best off getting a 360, if you're only interested in games it's cheaper, the only reason to buy a PS3 is if you want to play some of the PS3 only franchises.
Can't beleive how 360 biased this forum still is. The PS3 has proven itself to be a supercomputer which is superior in every way to the 360 and would be cheap at twice the price it is currently. The 360 is stuck together with blutack and it suckzors big time!!!

ooo I've being called out, how exciting.
Simply looking at the games. As I said, all the big titles on the Xbox360 graphically didn't have a patch on the PS3 exclusives. MGS4, Uncharted, Killzone 2 and GT5P all blow anything I have seen on the Xbox out of the water. Not denying they are good games or even good looking but the PS3 definitely takes that cake.
I did say it was my opinion but in all honesty I can confidently say the PS3 has much more potential graphically... multiplatform aside. No doubt multiplats tend to look better on the Xbox but thats lazy devs.

Just to re-enforce my last post, I do have both consoles and both are played on the same setup. Aside from the one line quote from Skyfall I don't think I said anything conclusive. Merely voiced opinions on both consoles.
To be fair though, most titles will be multi-platform and if current trends continue will be equal or better on the 360.

Go for the ps3 for the exclusive and for the extra capabilities it has. If you decide you dont like it you can always flog it for a decent price. The price has come down a little lately.
