Since sunday I have done oil and oil filter change, fitted stock levers as the after market ones were crap and messed the bite point on the clutch and started fitting the new led indicators but they will have to wait until monday as I have a stag do to attend on the weekend
To do...
Fit renthal bars
Clean and lube chain
Check all bolts and nuts
fit new tank pad
fit rim tape
fit new number plate (may keep the smaller one)
fit new spark plugs
and once I move into the new house (it has a GARAGE YAY!)
Full strip and rebuild, including frame touch ups (bits of rust) and maybe fit a 47 instead of a 45 tooth rear sprocket.
Bike is a 2000 ZRX 1100 (beast of an older bike but I love it to bits)
Oh and whats a good commuter with some form of wind protection and easy in the wet? (cheap to buy insure, 500cc+)
Noticed the chain was a bit loose on the bike when I went out on it the other day, so finally got around to having a go at tightening it.
Wasn't too bad after I hit it with a hammer a few times to loosen the nut Hopefully the wheel's still straight after me crawling round on the floor trying to see the faded markers.
Very nice!
My Dad has a beat up old Africa Twin in his back garden that we are going to attempt to fix up next year, needs some working Carbs I think.....
Nothing to my current bike but I have started saving for my next bike which I aim/hope to have for next summer. All I have to do is not spend any extra money on this bike, or biking gear, and I'll have the money no problem.
Tracked down the maker of my rearsets and ordered a new footpeg.. thanks to info from Craig at MotoRapido. Once that has been fixed (needs the remnants of the old one drilling out) I can go and ride it back from the shop.
Going to swap the chain+sprockets, fixup the bodywork and replace that ******* alternator generator over the winter. Then I might get round to doing all the things I actually wanted to do to the bike.
Quick question, how often should you change the oil and lube the chain? I've had a YBR 125 for 2 months and it went in for a full service at the beginning of the sept so I'd like to keep on top of the maintenance. I use it to commute and get about so obviously get's it share of wear and tear, proven by the scratch that appeared last week on the fuel tank
Oil - depends on the bike as each one is different, but bigger bikes are usually every year or every 4,000miles. Although I tend to change mine every 6months or 1,500/2,000 miles.
Chain should be lubed every 400miles or so. It only takes 2mins anyway.
Ok, it finally stopped raining so I took this for a test ride today
Of all the sports bikes I've ridden in the last couple of weeks this was definately the most fun and most comfortable. It had a quickshifter fitted which was great fun Plenty rapid enough for road riding and fun in the corners. Chucked her about and she stuck like glue Front brake worked great too. Didn't need to apply much pressure to stop her rapidly
Not comfortable enough for me to consider buying, unless I win the lottery and can afford multiple bikes though
So I think I'm happy that sports bikes just aren't for me. I require a bit more comfort for my poor old achy body
That being the case, I'm booked in to test ride new Street and Speed Triples tomorrow
The only plan after that is to maybe try a Z1000. That's the only other naked bike folks seem to think might be a match for the Speed Triple...
