What did you do to your bike today?

Fitted new calipers and pads along with new HEL lines only to fail and get brake fluild down the calipers and new have paint streaks... First time doing brakes so lesson learnt.. don't open the bleed nipple too much lol.

Not today but 3 days ago removed this from rear tyre just off centre not the lighter by the way.

VoG.

The old ones were sticking and it was becoming unsafe to ride so I did a caliper swap rather than do a full rebuild myself. On the old ones 3 of the 12 pistons were not stuck when I took them off.

Think I have got the new ones bled properly, just got to test ride the bike and hope that the small movement the pads have when letting off the brake is enough to stop any rubbing. Those 6 pots are a nightmare to bleed! Over 6 hours to fit new lines, calipers, pads and then prime and bleed the system but then it is the first time I have done it before.

Now I am going to autosol a few bits, put a new tank pad on and new legal number plate then test ride it and pray I did everything right!

The problem I am having is that the pads wont retract so they are just sat up on the disc, not even going back a tiny amount to clear the discs.

Any solutions? I don't like the idea of pushing the pistons back although I may have to just enough to get the pads to clear.

use a g clamp to push the pistons back inside, but before you do clean all the dirt of the piston and spray some wd40 on the piston or some red caliper seal grease, the pistons are sticking slightly

Thats just it wazza, they are newly refurbished calipers with fresh seal and new pads.

They rub when walking the bike and the lever is ok, could be firmer but would a short test ride work to see if the pistons and pads retract enough to clear the discs?

yeah they probably need some use now thay have been rebuilt,if they are new pads too then they will need to bed in

as a side note ive just joined the "nail in the tyre club" just found a tiny nail in rear tyre, second one in a month, think im gonna stop filtering near/over the white lines as i think thats where im picking them up:eek:

Ok just went for a 5 min ride and the verdict...

No good.

The pads were rubbing enough that I could hear them over the other noises, the lever is still a tad spongy (not too bad) I think the bleed nipple are seeping the dics and calipers were quite hot (rode less than half a mile) and just looked in the res and the fluid is a bit cloudy...... **** **** ****

Think I would rather have a nail in a tyre than my brakes right now! But I did it because I want to learn these things and learning I am...

I just went for a ride and cannot feel my hands, it was bloody cold!

I tested my external mic for my GoPro but it sounds crap.. :( I hope it's just the place i mounted it (it's picking up a lot of vibration) I will have to try somewhere else!

try re-bleeding them

Ok I give up. Clearly I am not fit for doing work on any kind of motor.

Snapped a bleeder nipple, yes I know I was putting too much pressure on it, but that was with my torque wrench at 6nm which is 2nm less than the rated.

Anyone know what to do? (I am guessing that the nipple seat in the caliper is probably dead now too) About to take the calipers off and launch them and then launch myself.

Ps Wazza, I did re-bleed them and got a good lever then borked the nipple like a hamfisted tard.

Went to go out for a bimble today only to find the bike wouldn't start. Stuck it on charge for a couple of hours and got it to turn over.

Went out for said bimble, and decided to stop at Asda on the way back as I needed a couple of bits. Was only in the shop for about 15 mins but when I got back to the bike it wouldn't start :(

Fortunately I am an AA member. One of those things I do tend to keep going and hope never to have to use. First time ever I've had to call them out. They got there in about 1/2 hour, which is pretty good I think.

After a few mins running various tests he got his booster out (ooerr) and hey presto the bike started. He says the battery's charging ok, but it looks like one of the cells is dead. Battery's only about a year old, and I've hardly done any miles on the bike this year, so a bit miffed about that.

Got my ohlins shock fitted, got my new coolant hoses fitted, got the rad all bled through and then was going to go for a test ride but... found frayed wires on the kill switch and as soon as I moved the bars they earthed the connection and blew all my fuses!
Re-wiring the switch and adding some cabling in so its not so tight under the tank now doh
