What did you do to your bike today?

Taken to a garage, I don't have the equipment. The charge for taking the wheels off and fitting tires is about $130... the entire tire set was only $250 (Bridgestone RS10).

Tire prices are so much better here

Your tire prices might be better but I can get them fitted with a roll in roll out service for £30 the pair, your fitting charges are crazy!

In my area its £20 wheels of the bike, £40 wheels on the bike.

About the same here, £20 per wheel (off the bike). I wouldn't let a tyre place take my wheels off either.

Need to do mine soon. Bit of a pain as I need to borrow a car.

Local guy to me charges apparently £25 per tyre now :D L O L.

Thankfully I do my own tyres now.

Do you have any special tools? Or do you just do it the ghetto way?

All you need is a bead breaker, tyre levers, and rim protectors and a decent compressor. All can be had of ebay for a decent price. And will save you a lot of money over the years. I think my bead breaker was £25, levers £10, and rim protectors like £5, and occasionally some cable ties. I go through a few sets a year with my milage so mine have paid for themselves already. Balacing tyres is dead simple too and can be done with the axle mounted on some home made blocks, or just buy some dynabeads.

What's the power delivery like on the zx6r? If you're in 5th gear doing 30mph and you give it throttle, is it power straight away and you're off or is it sluggish and takes a few seconds?

Can't really find out for myself until I pass my test.

Not sure why you'd be in 5th and 30mph tbh, it's not going to pull away quickly, it'll kind of climb the revs until they get higher and then take off.

Drop it down several, 600's don't do slow speed high gear.

Either way, it'll feel like a rocket ship following a 125

You need a litre bike or a 750cc+ v-twin to have that oompth from love revs, most 600 IL4's won't have a lot of power until 6-7k rpm, whereas a on litre IL4 or a v-twin it's any gear, any revs, twist and you're gone :D

However, even 6th gear at 30mph on a 600 will feel like a rocketship opening the throttle vs a 125 :D

And that nature of 600cc IL4 engines also makes them great to ride for beginners, as unless you stray into the upper rev range, you'll have safe (if not mind blowing) power. Just hang on when the needle starts to climb :)

I'm used to being in 5th and doing 30mph :D :p

How much did you pay for the sync?

No fee like I said in my previous post one of the mechanics at my local dealer is on holiday this week so borrowed his lift and tools to do the Job I have a set of gauges but wanted a her on the lift so I could have a shifty before winter comes.

Had a rear Tyre fitted while I was there also.

3rd would feel better on a bigger bike, maybe 4th if you're just pootering along.

Remember it'll probably do 75 in 1st (mine does anywho), 600's really aren't torquey in any way once you're used to them so you need to keep the needle 8k+ rpm (10k on mine)

Free for me I just turn up pay for my rubber and have a cuppa and give them a hint here and there then if by magic she's on the bench :D used to fit them myself but want them balanced.

My bike has cut out twice now upon depressing the clutch in traffic. Months apart mind so not a regular thing, any idea though why?

Cheers

I do, good thinking. Probably dirty as hell as my bike's a disgrace.

I'll have a fiddle over the weekend.

IN other news, after having my new rear tyre fitted last Thursday I thought I best double check the pressure for peace of mind. Attached my track pump and the pressure was fine, gave it a squirt for good measure and removed the nozzle. As I did air was just blowing out constantly!

Luckily screwing the cap on seemed to hold the air in but obviously not safe. A very local garage to be opens at 8am so limped it down there and the guy just refitted a new core and I was away within 5mins, absolute legend he was! Could have kissed him as I had a meeting at 9am and was expecting them to have to remove wheel etc. :D
