What did you do to your bike today?

If you do use one of the comparison sites make sure you double check everything when you go through to the insurers site as some of them make assumptions to fill in the insurers fields which are completely wrong and can obviously affect your quote price.

Gave the sv some loving, changed the oil to castol stuff 10w40, k&n oil filter, and renthal medium grips.

The grips feel awesome compared to the cheap nasty hard stuff, and changed the oil as I've done 3k miles since March which a lot of them been ran hard.

check the wiring isn't shorting? spray it with wd40 if you can

(idk much about those tbf,but it could also be a shorting element inside the grip? either that or a shorting wire from them somewhere)

I've traced the wiring from the controller back through the fuse and to the battery, and can't find any visible evidence of cable damage or anything like that.

I guess my next step is to try and pop off the controller panel and see if there's any evidence of problems.

I've got a multimeter but I'm not sure where or how I should be testing in this case.

Repairers rang today, they are picking the VFR up tuesday :D things are slowly moving along

Does anyone know if i will have to declare this theft claim on car insurance quotes too?

is the control panel watertight? spray it with wd40 once you open it up and then see if it still shorts

no idea how to test with multimeter

@dockie that's good news then, and no I wouldn't have thoughtso, your car is on a separate policy? if so then no (depends on the insurer) if it was a theft/third party claim then its not your fault anyway?

I adjusted the K-tric throttle position sensor on my zr7
(Kawasaki Throttle Responsive Ignition Control (K-TRIC) uses a sensor to alter ignition timing according to throttle position and engine speed for better throttle response and more power)
Its the only bit of tech my old bike has. It on the side of a carb and only adjusts the advance and retard of the ignition.
Turned it anti clockwise a few mm to get a little more advance , seems to work, bike pulls better from 3-6k rpm now. bikes 14 year old so don't know if it was in the right place before, but was worth a play, you can only move it about 3mm either way so not enough to damage the engine.

Went window shopping - saw a speed triple R with the forged wheels, and quite a bit of carbon, lovely thing - but it might have to come off the shortlist as the the space to put bags for touring is tiny, I can't see how a fully packed kreiga US30 will fit on it! :( Hope I'm wrong though, as they're gorgeous bikes.

Also, the KTM 1290 super adventure is much smaller than it looks in pictures. And the early Z1000SX pannier racks are fugly! you'd have to either keep them on permanently or not have them at all, the racks are that bad. So would have to be the newer version if I ever got one.

The Street/Speed triples are pants for touring. I have the street and another bike club member has a speed and all the soft bags you can get for them are hung on dodgy after market frames, even the likes of kriega are crap on them and keep sliding off onto the exhausts! FYI, that makes a very nasty smell!

There's just no decent way to mount saddle bags, so tour lightly on a Speed/Street with a rucksack and tank bag, or not at all.

Do what I'm doing and get a newer Z1000SX (as you are already considering) for touring.

Edit: Do NOT put a top box on them, or if you do keep it under around 7 kilos. The air resistance and weight makes them into unicycles and is lethal on steep alpine ascents.

Have you ridden one? They are fine bikes but not exciting at all, a far cry from the Z1000SX or Speed Triple he is considering.

TBH a Z1000sx wasn't on the list, I just happen to pass one the other day and though "hmm, that looks interesting" - as a 2nd bike I'd want a v-twin, but would possibly settle for a triple - but deffo not an IL4. Nothing wrong with having a fondle of a few bikes on a boring weekend :D
