What did you do to your bike today?

I have a really bad oil leak:(its that bad its spraying onto the side fairing a little

@paul,yeah they tend to wear really quickly towards the end of the tyre's life, only done around 3k miles on mine and they still look new so far

That's gutting to see!! Hopefully it's just a new valve cover gasket needed? And while that's off an excuse to check those valves ;) Cant be far off 70k by now

I'm just about to hit 30k on my bike, and the last 10k (well, 9700 miles) of that was done by me :D So that's 10k miles in less than 10 months, with the bike being off the road for about 4 weeks! that's about 13k miles a year, add on a big euro trip and I'll be doing 15k miles next year

its great, loads of miles left yet:p I love not worrying about piling the mileage on unlike a newish machine when your constantly thinking about devalueing it if you clock too many miles up

I wonder if a modern day bike will last longer mileage wise than our 90's jap bikes? and early 00's in tallpaul's case, at 30k i think you've just about broken her in ;) got triple that at least!! im 300 miles of 67,000

That's why I want 2 bikes, I mean could you imagine trying to sell a 3 year old bike with nearly 50k on the clock! Never mind the maintenance and cleaning schedule. An old bike you can put the miles on and not worry about sliding down the road a couple of times :o and something nice for the weekend. :)

Not sure about modern stuff, I've had the exhaust valve servo fail and a relay that wouldn't turn off the starter motor fail on an 04 zx10r with just 18k miles,I think the electric components might pack up eventually on modern bikes or be troublesome

Only thing electrical I've had fail on my 98 zx6 was a fuel pump

That's one good thing about old bikes, a good old fashioned cable to some mechanical carbs, no ecu, simpler bikes and fairly simple to fix if they go wrong.

I love electric goodies on the modern bikes, but what's going to happen to them when they're 15 years old and have done 50k miles?

Yeah I feel the same, very nice at what they bring or do as long as they keep working, fine if you change your bike every few years but no good if your a long time keeper or want a cheap high miler years down the line

Even fuel injection has its drawbacks if your battery goes flat

Yeah it's the salt that does any nice bike in, the first night it drops below freezing the roads will be covered in it. Hopefully that's a few weeks away yet. Clocks go back in a couple of weeks too, dark at 5pm :(

Took her for a lap of Lake Gruyere, topped her up and hosed her down.

I guess I had better start preparing for the end of the season too and give her a thorough clean and store her :(

Pshhh, the temps don't get much into the minuses there does it (-2 to 7 average according to Google etc.)? Thought you were a proper biker :p

It's -3 at night now, and will be -20 on all the fun roads overnight through winter.

We have massive altitude differences here, where I live it gets down to -2-3 average most winters. That's the average temperature throughout the day, not night time temperatures!

On the plus side we have constant snow on the ground for 3-4 months of the year, and 8 foot high snow is awesome!

Plasti dipped my hugger at the weekend, it's amazing what a difference going from standard shiny black grp to matt black can do it now looks like a much more expensive proper bit of the bike rather than sticking out like a sore thumb.

Think I'm going to do the front mudguard on my YBR before I sell it as well as it's looking a little tired.
