What did you do to your bike today?

Had my heart set on a R6 but they seem to be rather restrictive as not many nice ones pop up so I thought I would look at some of the others and the GSXR 600 which I didn't like to begin with has grown on me quite a lot. I hated the cyclops style light but now i don't mind them.

So if I can't find the right R6 then most likely a GSXR-600. The CBR600RR is out of the question as my friend has one.

I know, I know; new rider on a SS is an accident waiting to happen but I just love the way they look.

Good to know most kits don't require drilling though. Was worried I'd be taking fairings of and ruining them!

It's the insurance that will kill you rather than the bike :D

I've been watching used bikes for a while now just seeing what I can expect to pay when I get my bike (hopefully next month assuming I pass) and there seems to be quite a selection in the price range I'm looking at (£2500-£3500) but I tend to be ignoring bikes that don't have the crash bobbins/frame sliders on.

It'll be my first bike let alone a first big bike so it's inevitable that I'll drop it so I really want that last line of defence.

Are these bobbins expensive to get fitted? I don't trust myself drilling or cutting the fairing so that's why I hope the one I buy has them on. Otherwise I might have to buy some and go to a garage to get them fitted by someone else

My R&G ones basically replaced one of the top frame/engine bolt things, no drilling or anything required, it was literally just screw in and you're done.

Put your bike in to the R&G website, then there will be a link to the installation instructions.

Really? Must be something up with that, surely. I don't live in the poshest area of Bristol and I'm 26 with no riding experience. Been driving for 6 years and I've never made a claim but I don't think that changes anything.

Mind you, that was me saying it had an alarm on it. Without an alarm it was about £490 for the GSXR.

edit: Just had a look at the R&G install guide. Seems easy enough! Glad to know I can let the bobbins not be a deciding feature now!

Get a naked bike, or half-faired. Far cheaper if you damage the fairing, and the bobbins just bolt on without any cutting.

Depends on the model of bike, some r&g crash bungs require you to cut or drill the fairing to fit them some are a straight fit

Thing is, I don't really like the look of any naked/half faired bikes. Not enough that I want to spend my money on at least. Aside from the Monster and the Brutale they've never appealed to me.

I know that's the more sensible route but I have to find something visually appealing first otherwise I wont ever be happy.

Fair enough I can understand that. I'd just say get to know the bike and take your time. You're not guaranteed a 2nd chance should you balls it up on the road ;)

Good lad, stay away from the dirty naked riders ;)

Oh absolutely! I'm not really an adrenaline junkie or someone who takes risks so I would like to think that finally the trait of being a bit cautious might actually have a benefit soon. Never had a speeding ticket or any points on my license so I'm hoping that mindset caries over.

I'll be doing small rides to begin with and gradually build up the miles as I get more comfortable. Will definitely be getting up early a few weekends to beat the traffic and so on.

I'll probably be that guy who has a bike for a few months and thinks it's quick before even getting into the powerband!

edit:

Lol, does it get a bit tribal between naked and faired riders?
