What did you do to your bike today?

Tyres last longer on smaller bikes for obvious reasons, but if your good with your throttle its amazing the difference in tyre life it makes. Im very tempted by the angel GT's but as tallpaul is im all about wet weather grip. I will always have at least one trip to work or back in the early hours of the mornings and i ride everyday all year round. The PR4's work for me so i wont risk the change.. not until summer anyway.

On a side note I had a small stint with continental contimotion and was also impressed in the wet

the gt/st are the best tyre ive used so far,i cant see me changing now, just perfect for everything

they hold the world endurance record aswell

Changed jobs at the beginning of the year and I'm struggling to justify using my bike as my commute is only 2.5mile now instead of 15miles :( By the time I get my gear on and bike out the shed I can be there in the car.

Might change in the summer, I hope!

You buying them online and then get them fitted at your chosen garage? How much difference is there buying them at the garage? Or do they not stock those?

Fitting is £15 or less to a wheel on it's own, so under £110 - my front tyre I bought from my local tyre place and they fitted it, back in june, £115 fitted. the same tyre on oponeo is £78 currently, so with fitting that's £93, so a decent saving.

I think the rear fitted from a tyre place was around £130-140.

you must be mad to choose the bike over the car in this weather anyway, its bitterly cold:eek:

nice warm car if I had the choice and wait for things to warm up

I can walk to my work place in less than 25 minutes... since getting a bike, I've been creating long routes in :D I manage to bump the 2 mile journey up to 7-10 miles :p

It is indeed starting to get colder. I leave about 6.40AM and after this mornings ride I might put more than a t-shirt on under my jacket soon.

As soon as the roads ice up I'm jumping in the car though

What are those merino base layers like? I've got some thermals but they are a bit thick to wear at work so figured I'd try them, do they work? I saw the ones in Aldi and they felt wafer thin so I don't know how good they are if at all. Don't want to waste money on those, I'd rather pay the extra for some branded ones if I have to.

They're very good. These last couple of mornings I've been wearing my normal hood kevlar jeans, with the aldi merino wool longjohns underneath, haven't felt the cold one bit. It's been down to 2-3 degrees, plus windchill. On my top half I've been wearing a short sleeved t shirt, long sleeved t shirt and a thin fleece under my textile jacket with thermal layer, so that shows how good the merino stuff is.

I have a fantastic rode near me that isn't part of the gritting schedule but still quite busy. I've already seen a car in a ditch this year. Last year I saw three on the same morning lmao. Bear in mind this road can't be more than a mile stretch :p

I can't wait for this year.

Good stuff, it seemed like they weren't up to the job because they looked so thin, where I work it's 1'c here because of the atmosphere the work has to be in, so I'm always freezing.

I'll go pick some up tomorrow. Cheers :)
