What did you do to your bike today?

Just toying with the idea of upgrading my forks. I can get some harder springs and there are things called emulators which make the apparently awful SV suspension a bit like sports bike forks.

Would I be right in saying that I could take the forks off, change the springs and oil, then at a later date add emulators without having to take the forks off the bike again, since they just go on top of everything?

When you fit emulators you have to drill out the holes in the damper rods to prevent them from doing any of the damping. I suppose it might be just about possible to keep the forks on the bike whilst the damper rods are removed, but it would be a big PITA to do compared to removing the forks.

Fitting emulators to an SV is well worth the effort though, it makes a big difference to the front end.

Cleaned it, polished it & rode it, Not back to how I want it but it's getting there.

I don't think it looks bad at all for a 15 year old bike with 35k up it.

Managed to find a M12 x 1.25 tap, that is not a common size!!

New reconditioned rear caliper now has a nice new retapped hole and I have a new set of non allan key fitting bolts ready to fit it all up tomorrow.

Going to run through all the holes on the set of fronts I got as well before I fit them just to make sure the threads are good and there's no paint build up left in the threads, might even get round to fitting them tomorrow but I might just sort the rear and then go out and enjoy the sun!

Painted the 929 front mudguard a few days ago, so cut it back and fitted it today. Not too shabby for a rattle can job.

superb and nice bike!!!

superb and nice bike!!!

I Love those old Blades & have got to own one sooner or later as my 2nd bike.

Will be getting mine out later for the usual clean/polish/tweak & Ride, I've got to do something about a rattle I've got at certain revs, pretty sure it's the Rad grill/guard as it's that kind of rattle & only happens at certain times when the revs fall or it ticks over here & there I get this rattle, Prob just me being fussy.

Am hanging about on RBN a biker group on Facebook & somebody posts a crash damaged Blade for 400 quid. I'm on it obviously but so are half a dozen others, Bikes low mileage light damage to front end & not recorded. Prob cost me 100 quid to collect it but what a Bargain, Can't resist Buying it if I get the chance even if it sits in my shed for a bit until I get the bits & bobs I'll need to put it back to factory.

I've fancied one for some time as I have a 1999 600F4, this would be it's big brother!"

Sounds like a great project, what year is it?

Fitted my new caliper and brake res plus some new ss mounting bolts for the front calipers then washed, clay barred and waxed it now it looks like it might be dry for more than a day.

Fit my new Brembo SC pads and then fully flushed and bled the front, rear and clutch fluids with Castrol React SRF.

Still have 1/2 a litre of it left but now it has been opened it will probably be ruined in a few months time even in a sealed bottle I guess it will take on moisture?

Before and afters!

Lovely and clear now, it was weird because the first bit out of the bleed nipples wasn't too bad but then it was horrid, I vacuumed out the reservoirs first and filled with fresh before vacuuming from the nipple keeping the res topped up to flush the old stuff out.

I give it about a month before it all turns black again but we'll see!

Still having slightly spongy initial first pull on the front but I think that is just the braking system hardware as I am sure there is no air in the lines.

May get the dealership to check it over, just annoying after riding the BMW S1000RR for a week, the brakes on that are amazing!

I did have a bit of a play with the position after I took that photo.

This is how it is now.

Fluid lines up perfectly within the markers now when you turn it to full right lock.

There's a bit of rust in some places, nothing major. But it annoys me, how can I get rid of it, are there any substances I could spray on and scrap it or?

The oil cooler guard I'll stick in a bucket of white vinegar or coca-cola for a a day or two and it should come off. :p The pipe, I'll polish it out.
