What did you do to your bike today?

Definitely need a new battery. Had to jump start it at the weekend and struggled to start it this morning, not enough juice.

Recommended brand?

I was just about to buy a new battery when i remembered something quite critical about this issue.

I had the rectifier replaced recently under recall....

I'm calling up the garage and asking if there's warranty on it.

Went to Brighton, on my way there I went on B roads, riding slow in a jeans and T-shirt (I know I shouldn't but I did :) )
on my way back I've used motorways so got all my gear... probably lost around 5 pounds sweating :D

Yeah use one of the plug strips that you push in from the outside, if the hole is central a garage might be able to plug it, they'll take off the tyre and put in a mushroom plug from the inside.

I doubt anywhere would be interested in fitting a proper permanent plug with the inside of the tyre covered in goop. The string stuff is designed for temporary repairs only, very useful to get you home though.

Goop is designed to prevent or fix smaller stuff, perfect for the slow leak I got after about 1k miles. It just washes off with water, no problem cleaning the mess off my bike when I got that bigger puncture. Plus it'll help slow down a bigger puncture. The one I got a few days ago might have left me on the side of the road without the goop.

Can't see why they'd have a problem plugging a tyre that has Goop, it does just wash out.

Because they can't just whack the tyre on and off they've got to spend time cleaning the tyre and all their kit to get rid of it which ever if it does just wash off is still a pain in the bum in a busy garage I'd imagine.

It's like when someone asks a garage to do something simple like adjust the chain and they quote a £lol price simply because it's not worth the hassle for what it would actually cost.

Yesterday I sprayed the top fork clamp (?) as it had been battered by the bike keys over the years. This lead to me spraying the yokes and the lever clamps all in matt black. It looked so good I went on to stray the alternator cover, part of the frame on the same side and the side stand.

All of it has been a massive improvement as the new paint brings a new lease of life to the bike. I've now decided that I'm going to spray the lower part of the forks matt black, the swing arm and the engine casing (keep the salt off it) as well. At the moment the forks barely have any silver paint left on them and the swing arm is a little rusty in places so it's also for protection against the elements.

I'll put some pics up at some point but can't at the moment as my phone is off for repair

Turns out my battery problems were the battery all along, the rectifier was a red herring. It didn't start this morning.

Whacked it on my friend's oximiser quickly to get it up to 13v+. I knew it was the battery in the end because when i turned the ignition on (not started yet) and the fuel injection was readying, it plummeted to almost 11v immediately. I started it and it whacked up to 13v+ again, so is charging okay.

I've ordered a Motobatt and my own oximiser.

I noticed my coolant levels are looking a bit low this morning. I have no idea whats in there at the moment, would I be ok to top it up with another brand, or should I drain the system and refill?

With the current heatwave, would I be ok topping it up with water for now?

As a quick fix sticking some distilled/deionised water in will be fine, then for the couple of quid and half an hour of your time I'd do a full drain and refill at least then you know what's in there.

Having a hell of a time trying to rivet the DID master link, the minimum flare is 5.5mm but the rivets keep cracking before I even get to 5.4mm, no idea what I'm doing wrong, I can order more master links but I have no doubt that they will also just keep cracking. I've also got the plate pushed on the exact same width as all the others on the chain so I don't think it's anything to do with that.

Prepped the bike for Snetterton next month. R&G covers all round, aftermarket can for less noise (got black flagged last time at 106dB with the stock can). Axle sliders from China- CNC ally with replaceable sliders - £5 from a well known river-bases online retailer!

The R&G protectors seem ubiquitous, but I'm not convinced they're going to do a lot of good- surely the stainless fasteners will touch down first and transmit any forces directly to the motor.... Might replace them with GBRacing items that seem much better designed.

The covers are only really designed to help stop you grinding through your cases aren't they? Nothing to do with absorbing shock.

Cleaned and waxed mine ready for some riding tomorrow, rebuilt and refitted the caliper to my old ybr just needs filling and bleeding now then hopefully it'll be MOT ready.
