What did you do to your bike today?

Today I rebuilt the clutch lever and greased it up with red rubber grease. Also lubricated the brake disc bobbins with some red grease.

Rebuilt the calipers yesterday with new seals so once the pads have bedded in properly the brakes should be tip top!

I tighten the engine and exhaust mounts on my hornet 900 last night went round a friends today to test it out seems much better now :) butI'm thinking of selling it and buying a cb1300 or cbf1000,
Not ridden a cb13 yet but the cbf 1000 is such a fun bike to ride..I know it looks ugly but its so smooth and comfy and the handling is great fun....I'm worried about the cb1300 tho for filtering in london as I'm only 5,9 tall
I had a cbf1000 as a loan bike when some woman pullled out on me and a brand new r1 :P sold it now tho.....brilliant bike the cbf1000 much underrated
Want something thats good on petrol

Yeah the new cb1000 looks really nice but im after a secondhand bike and I'm not so old :) .£4500 max ...its just for commuting really and taking some passengers, (big hairy ass builders lo to work that's why i wanna keep a litre bike) and a bit touring, Can't take anyone on the hornet it has rubbish suspension.

I Just been to chiswick honda on the way home and looked at the cb1300 2007 black no fairing model I really like them, its like the hornet 900 but much nicer...the hornet 900 has rubbish suspension and throttle control not so smooth like the cbf1000 i ridden,
to buzzy
I have a power commander fitted on the hornet but never had a custom map made and dont really wanna spend any more money.

Try the cbf1000 its really nice ride and really fun, handles great ..great suspension and the smoothest throttle...I'm just thinking it may be highly nick able bike as all the couriers use the 600 and would be nicked for parts :(
Its so bad in London..everytime I'm walking back tothe bike after work I wonder if its been nicked :( I have to park on motorcycle bays where I'm working at the time,, now I'm in Vauxhall next to the oval and kids on mopeds everywhere..the toe rags!

Went back to Silverstone for another track day, weather was much better this time. Hired the bike again - can't risk losing my only source of transport. Lots of people throwing bikes down the road, S1000RR trashed, 1098 trashed pretty hectic day! Photographer took a pretty good shot of me! Managed to get into the high 2:30's and then in the afternoon they added the extra "kink" after the maggots - becketts section and I was consistently running 2:40's, lots of traffic though so wasn't too bad.

What the picture doesn't tell you is that about 1sec after it was taken I lost the rear and nearly highsided :D Good day all around!

^cool^

Just some simple stuff for the bike today, like a bit of basic chain maintenance, general cleaning of the bike, and changed the oil & filter. It feels noticeably smoother, which is a little strange considering I haven't done anything else like carb balancing etc.

Perhaps the benefits of an oil service are just more noticeable on a highly strung engine?

Well, theres a face lift 2011 CBF1000 for sale for £4600 down your neck of the woods, might be worth having a look at. clicky clicky

Yeah Vog I've seen that thanks but not wanting something to new lo sounds stupid :P but parking up at motorcycle bays I can see that one getting nicked...and I'm not to sure on them new headlights maygrow on me, seen a few on the road ....the reviews on the cbf1000 forum seem very good tho on the new model it does look best in black

Done plenty of miles this week, Checked it over with a set of allen keys & spanners making sure everything is tight as that thread about bits blowing off scared me. :p
Touched in a few chips on my black wheels which has taken your eye right off them & the wheels look mint again.
I've got the stuff for a shed base coming tomorrow so once that's done & my shed is up I plan on stripping her down a fair bit giving her a service & a proper clean.

was up early so thought why not change the coolant! no crap came out with any of the flushes so even though the front of the rad looks rubbish the rad itself is fine :) lets hope new coolant lowers the temps a bit :)

fitted a new battery, the old one just gave up the ghost.
smart charger says its full and its showing 12.6v but it wouldn't turn the engine over.
cleaned all the contacts on the battery and starter relay but still no joy.
couldn't get a direct replacement in short notice, but got one meant for an R1
its a little smaller in width but same height. 2amps higher output also.
bikes starting great on it.

Changed the oil on the RSV on Saturday, what a complete PITA it is, only the Italians could make such a simple operation so complicated. You have to remove the fairing lowers and the bellypan to get access to the oil tank drain, oil filter and sump drain, but because the Akra exhaust, you have to remove the R/H can to remove the belly pan. Also I have crash bungs, and they have to be removed to get the lower fairing panels off. Then the filling sequence is complicated because the level in the oil tank isn't correct until you get the engine hot.

I also finally fitted my Tutoro chain oiler to the RSV yesterday, I'm fed up with the build up of 'clag' that spray on chain wax causes. Just need to set up to oil flow now.

Also I noticed a worrying creaking noise coming from the rear wheel when it was turned by hand. After taking the wheel out and stripping the cush drive, I found the metal pins on the sprocket carrier that engage with the metalistic bushes in the wheel hub were slightly corroded and a very tight fit. A bit of emery on the pins and bush inners, and a smear of grease during reassembly and it's now lovely and quiet.

I also spend about 2 hours rebuilding the stupid TomTom bracket. Last time I removed the TomTom the bracket dismantled itself with springs flying in all directions due to one of the hinge pins going walkies. A old bicycle spoke was exactly the right size to make a new pin, and eventually found a couple of suitable springs amongst the enormous pile crap in my workshop.

Off to Donnington at lunch time today on the bike, meeting up with a few other people on the way who are all doing the Haslam race school tomorrow morning. I reckon that's a good 4 1/2 hour trip, probably over 5 with rest stops.

I find the oil change procedure fairly straightforward on the RSV, but then again I've been doing it for years and its a Gen 1 Mille I own. Getting the level correct is a bit of a fiddle initially but after the fresh oil level is correct its just a case of keeping it topped up so it reads approx 1/3-1/2 way up the sight tube between the marks. Any more than that and you end up with oil getting blown into the airbox. I've got a Scotoiler on mine and it makes maintaining the drive chain so much easier than mucking around with messy wax or lube. Bonus is it will massively increase the life span of the chain. :)

Finally got my hands on a Racefit Growler for my Gixer. Altho won't be fitted it yet as I got a track day at Bedford booked in a few weeks and I know they are fairly strict on Db limits.

Can't wait to fit it tho :D
