What did you do to your bike today?

Got the week off work so planned loads of rides - but I'll be Daddy Daycare most of the week/weekend now, so took the bike out to Sidmouth today, via a nice Calimoto back roads route - lovely stuff!

I also fiddled with my suspension and adjusted the position of my bars - so everything felt a lot nicer on today's ride, mind you, my arse is still in tatters! Got another seat coming soon, planning to mod it with a gel insert - so hopefully that'll be the end of numb bum rides

Full system has arrived (link pipe not shown)..

and also won these on Ebay for £14.99 :D

I'll be interested how you get on with that.
I did a couple of hundred miles over the weekend, and suffered the same numb aass.

The seat I'll be chopping up is some knock off of the OEM - found it for 45 quid on eBay. I already have some 1cm thick gel off Amazon to go in, and there's plenty of guides on doing it, think Lamb Chops did one off the top of my head.

I never really had the numb bum like this last year - maybe part of it is to do with only having done two long rides this year; but the seat could certainly do with some improving on the comfort side. I sat on a gen 2 in the BMW dealership over winter, and it had the official comfort seat on it - but it felt harder than the original one!

I'm still farting around with suspension too - I believe that my preload is probably far too stiff; from the factory I believe it comes set fully to "L" (I'm guessing both front and rear), and that's for a 75kg rider - in kit I'm probably not much more than that, but I have 6 on the front and 9 on the rear and still find I get bucked out of the seat on farmy B roads!

Ran out of daylight fitting the trial tidy (thanks for the link btw), so didn't set the dials back to fully L - but I'll do that tomorrow, and see if I can blag a cheeky ride (if I can palm the toddler off on the Wife lol) - then I'll add maybe 1 or 2 turns if I feel the need.

Edit: my Wife didn't know what a tail tidy was, thought it was a little cubby hole or bag.... So I showed her your before and after photos, explaining the differences.... she then asks "where do they live then? Is that numberplate Taiwanese or something" - to which I pointed out it was an obscured UK reg

There's a reason she is known as Bridget Jones :D

Got rid of the power sapping brick..

and fitted the new headers & end can, removed the rear foot pegs, fitted a can hanger and finally a new screen..

I've decatted a few bikes, but none has responded in the way the Bimmer has!
It would barely power wheelie in 2nd, but now it'll lift the front wheel in 3rd.
:D

@Scort are you any further on with modding the seat?

Not yet, sadly - Royal Mail have been a Royal PITA delivering it! Missed it on Wednesday as I was out with my daughter, so I scheduled a redelivery for Friday - but instead, they opted to redeliver on Thursday when I was out again! Logging in to reschedule it again and the next day was Saturday!! Waited in the entire day, and it was a complete no show. Rescheduled for delivery on Wednesday whilst I'm WFH - so who knows if it'll show up or not.

Those decat pipes look great, and sound like they make the bike even more fun! Very tempted, but the Wife would probably kill me - mind you, what's the old saying about it being easier to get forgiveness than permission :D

Royal mail now force the posties to deliver the item again the day after even though it hasn't been requested and they can't complete deliveries as they are just now, most people aren't in because they are at work so wont be in the next day either, more time knocking doors and writing cards and less mail delivered.

They want to close all collection points in the country and lose even more staff, thousands of posties have been leaving for years.

Jesus, I didn't know it was so bad! Posties are usually ace, but it sounds like a deliberate effort to make their job and the service worse. My Wife works in the NHS and has almost the same issues being pushed, seemingly on purpose - it's mental!

What happens during MOT? You need a friendly tester, they don't care most of the time or you swap the headers back for the MOT?

I’ve never had a bike fail on excessive noise, but then again I’ve never used a main dealer for an MOT.
If it’s obnoxiously loud, then I’d just put the baffle/bung back in before the test.
When I bought my ZX10R from a Kawasaki dealer they refused to pass it (pre-sale) because it didn’t have a cat fitted, even though bikes don’t require an emissions test on the MOT (they said it was too noisy).

And speaking of noise..

De-catting my S1000R has caused one issue, and that’s BMW’s “thrust acoustics” which is driving me nuts.
Maybe if was a young un and loved pops and bangs it’d be ok, but I’m not.
Sadly there seems no way to disable it other than running in rain mode, and where’s the fun in that :(

I've still got the cat on mine but have a racefit can fitted and I've not even gotten a "noisy exhaust" advisory on my last 2. Very disappointed
Considering my SV used to get one with an almost full length Scorpion can fitted. I do get the "That sounds mint" as they hand the keys back though.

What bike you got now?

Not ridden at all this year  oil cooler got a leak end of last year so it was parked up all winter, and the oil coolers are rarer than rocking horse poop, there was one guy who made decent aftermarket ones and I contacted him in Jan to put me down for one.... got to May and still nothing.... and apparently the company he used for the cores couldn't supply them anymore and he had a new company and would be made next week bla bla still nothing and now doesn't respond to my messages :D
And all the while I have had watch lists on eBay for decent second hand ones and there has literally been nothing in the UK for 6 months, one popped up yesterday so hopefully I can get back on the road soon!

Can't you DIY something? Loads of different sized oil coolers on the market, new braided lines wouldn't be a bad idea either. I suppose oil pressure might be of a concern?

Sadly haven't had the time this year, if what was on the bike was Universal fittings then sure, but the OE is a custom mount on bike end and at the cooler, I did ask HEL about it years ago at the NEC but it ended up being quite expensive. I just wanted a cheap £100 secondhand unit :p

Finally got my parcel from RM yay!

The knock-off S1000R seat actually feels comfier than the OEM one, though it sits maybe half an inch lower than OEM. So with that in mind, I have decided to mod the OEM seat with gel, and I'll keep this knock-off for when I trade/sell it maybe.

Just taken the cover off of the OEM seat, so I'll measure up and cut it for gel shortly - I need to get some thin foam to go over it, along with spray glue, then after that I'll need to borrow a decent stapler - though some of the gaps to staple are really tight - so unless I have fire one in like a bullet; I might need to be creative with my stapling
