What did you do to your bike today?

After fitting the supplied baffle to the Black Widow end can and still finding it too noisy, I fitted some baffle pack to it and now it's just perfect and drowns out the ghastly pops"n"bangs..

Some people pay a lot of money for those pops'n'bangs yanno. Usually BMWs too, for some reason :p

Can't you get it mapped out, and perhaps gain a few hp in the process?

There has to be a way in software. Notice that the popping doesn't start until the coolant temp is 60c or above.

I have to admit i never knew BMW had a name for the secondary air injection. Also admit that I kinda like it :D

Received some Evotech Performance bar ends. I was skeptical how much more premium these could be over the stock and I'm in love with them. They're so weighty and feel great. Very happy with them!

Removed the hideously ugly and stupidly heavy standard exhaust on the GTR1400:

Fitted the same can I had had on my old bike, a shiny new cheap n chearful, Delkevic 350mm oval, baffles out of course, sounds sweet :D

Next up once it arrives, the 35mm peg lowering kit. As big as the GTR1400 looks, it's not that big, and at 6'4", she starts to cause my knees to ache. Hoping the pegs being lower will make long rides a little more comfortable.

Edit: well my joy was short-lived. Just realised, and hadn't even considered, that I can't get the right pannier on now as the exhaust sits too high. Will get in touch with Delkevic tomorrow and see what they say. :(

Edit 2: I see what I've done wrong. There's a small lowering bracket that I forgot to use, which is suspended from the original can mounting point, which would lower the overall height of the can. Back to the garage.

Edit 3: Phew, that's better :)

Replaced the fuel filter, lines and pump on my 28yo zx6r.

Still starts to bog, or drop a cyl when cruising in 5th or 6th @5k.

Next job is ht leads and plug caps.

Peg lowering kit arrived today. Only took 10 mins to install. I thought I felt a slight difference on a quick test ride, but that might be placebo. I'll know for sure if the lower pegs make a difference once I do a longer ride.

It’s the air recirculation system to burn off unburnt fuel in the exhaust, extra air is injected to cause ignition in the exhaust and reduce emissions. It can usually be turned off by any mapping place, or you can usually remove the system and blank it (but this can throw and engine fault light)

In an effort to reduce mirror vibes, I picked up a pack of rubber o rings of Amazon for a fiver, and just fitted them between the lever clamps and mirror stems - might be a cheap fix or a waste of time; the next ride will decide!

Turned the bike on this morning just to check the fuel level as I'm going out on long ride this evening, smelled petrol, sure enough.

Fuel balancer (black hose there I'm the middle) leaking again on the left side, apparently there is something like 65psi through that.

Anyway fixed it this morning with a new bit of hose, joys of working from home lol.

Also topped the oil up as noticed a bit low, lubed chain and gave it a clean, should be good to go now.

Verdict is still out on the DIY gel in my seat - first ride was this morning to work - felt ok; but I'll see after a 300+ mile jaunt.

Sadly my rubber washer hack didn't improve the mirror vibrations - they're not terrible tbh, but it's always nice to have a clear view.

I did however, find something on an S1000R forum that helped my suspension massively - apparently in Rain and Road modes, the suspension is 'soft', whereas in Dynamic it is 'normal' and Dynamic Pro is 'hard'. I always thought that Road mode had a reduced BHP, but this isn’t the case, it just has a smoother torque curve. So I’ve been riding in Road, with the ABS off (as it’s far too intrusive on Road mode), and it’s made the bike much nicer to ride! And to my bum dyno, feels just as rapid as the Dynamic and Dynamic Pro modes.

Do you not have a "User" mode where you can choose each setting individually?

Not for suspension settings - I believe that the S1000RR had it, and possibly the Gen 1 S1000R. I have a Dynamic Pro mode that lets you change settings for ABS/TC/Engine map - but that doesn't have anything to tailor the suspension. The dedicated suspension button allows the selection of Road and Dynamic, and each of those have a toggle for two-up/luggage. It seems that BMW have programmed the suspension comfort based on the riding mode chosen - only thing you can do is preload.

Where I live Dyna pro is back breaking on the bumpy roads to say the least.
One thing I did recently learn is that the bike has linked braking.
I was looking to find out why the rear brake felt like the ABS was kicking in when I braked with both front and rear.
Clear case of RTFM.

Not sure if this is of use:

Seems to be applicable to the 2017 - 2020 bike.
