What film did you watch last night?

Premetheus - 5/10

For those, like me, who are expecting the usual Alien vs Humans battle - this movie contains nothing like that.

There is virtually no action. There is no horror. There are no heart stopping moments which w
I'm not sure what rating the BBFC gave to this movie, but it could easily have been rated 12 or even PG.

IMO, this movie was not a prequel to Alien.
It was set in the same Alien Universe, in an earlier timeline to Alien.

Had the last 30 seconds of the movie been cut, I'd never have known that this movie was related to the Alien movies.

Prometheus was a standalone sci fi movie, which used the Alien franchise purely for marketing - Ridley Scott pulled a cheap trick by including the last 30 seconds of the movie.

I think that Ridley Scott should've created and spent the budget on a completely new Sci Fi movie and not attempted to use the Alien Universe.

For those who question their beliefs in God and want to find out how the Human race came to exist.

Apparently a sequel to this turd, is being created. Dear Lord...

I thought most of this was common knowledge? I remember an interview with Scott where he clearly stated there would be no obvious connection to the Alien movies which preceded it, but (as you say) the plot did exist in the same universe which I suppose you could argue is a little ambiguous! :)

I've not seen it yet, but I've had mixed reviews from friends. I certainly won't be expecting pulse rifles and flame throwers.

I should add I really liked Alien 3, which went against the grain in terms of how it was met by film goers generally.

Olympus Has Fallen

Started out well, but soon as the white house has been taken it quickly goes down hill.

I want to disengage my brain and in some way I did but i just can't help later on in the movie the bad guys and the good guys both makes so many mistakes it makes me think how stupid does the director thinks us audience are.

Like AFTER the army has got the call saying that the President is safe but injured, why do they not charge in with everything they got?

6 helicopters can't take out 2 guns?!

Those passwords are damn easy to crack.

How can he control all the videos links from outside the bunker ?! Surely the bunker has priority.

Some of the CGI was pathetic, like when the North Korean gun ship crashing....that was like graphics from a flight sim.

Started out 7/10, end with 3/10

End result, 5/10

Olympus Has Fallen

Not as good as I had hoped. All American crap without the charm. It actually felt very much like a poor mans Die Hard.

I struggled to care
5.5/10

The beginning was poor where people forget how to shoot straight, run out into large open areas when they know they are been shot at etc That plane post 9/11 gets an awful long way into the air space before its even picked up. Better off if they had entered underground via the tunnels I think that would have worked better. Also the president, who they were always likely to kill anyway, for South Korea. Really. Just didn't make enough sense to suspend my disbelief

Every time the bad guys pages through the video link, I wanted Morgan Freeman just to say, right before the other guy has a chance,

"United States does not negotiate with Terrorists MoFo"

Then cut off the link, and keep doing it.

Olympus has fallen = A10 V10 F8 :D

We were not sure how.....

As noted - How did they got the Presidents code and how did Gerald Butler still had operational codes to safes etc when he had been taken off that job for around 18 months or so.! The rest I forgave as it was just a popcorn movie, except my wife kept asking why they were walking out from the White House into the line of fire)
It also seemed like a very close copy of a book I had read a while ago featuring Mitch Rapp called Transfer of Power.

Jumanji - 7/10
Seen this one countless number of times but still a good watch when nothing else is on.

Coming to America - 9/10
One of my favourite films, much better than anything Eddie Murphy has been in for years

The got the President's code by plain and simply code breaking algorithm program...which is absurd !!! A code like that would take years from a super computer to break. It has numbers, letters and symbols !

I let the keycode to the safe pass.
I even let the code hacking pass.

But things like pulling out the entire fleet, the US will never do that, and to be honest, the NSA and Pentagon will find a way to isolate the line from the bunker in the white house and stop them monitoring the world outside soon as they know a hostage situation has taken place. I mean if a former secret service agent can lock them out of a video feed with a few key press strokes in the West Wing office then the rest of the government should be able to do a lot more.

You really have to turn off all your brain to watch this film and don't think about anything.

I suppose I was ok at doing just that, switching off from the most glaring of ludicrous decisions which were acted on in the film. The pulling out of the US fleet simply would not happen, as you noted. Goodness knows, in light of recent terrorist events, how the plane got as close as it did. I even had issues over the personal choices made by the President to take the, assumed at the time to be, Korean leaders down into the bunker considering that would violate protocol. Even the President would not have been able to countermand such orders - not just for his own safety but considering the trio of people there who had the codes and the location of the only command computer to disable it, if so activated.
To enjoy the film, switch off, suspend belief and enjoy the popcorn and cheesy CGI - this I did, and had to do to enjoy it. My wife was not as forgiving, and reminded me as such as the events unfolded in the film.!

Maybe this will be better :D

Evil Dead (2013).
Good quality gore and limbs dropping off, being sawn off etc but other than that the plot was average, acting was average as was camera work. Cabin in the wood is a better modern horror. Way better.

Watch it only for the gore.
