What film did you watch last night?

I really didn't think Wolf of Wall Street was all that, boobs, no harm, but most of the drug taking and stuff was just, it was filler stuff. It felt like it lacked a real main story.

They didn't focus on anything, they didn't really do anything in regards to him learning to be a stock broker, starts with making calls, never showed him learning how or doing well, he got his licence, then the company folded, then he went and was perfect at selling instantly?

It never really mentioned why anyone kept their money with them, when the money did nothing. It never focused on how they did the IPO or what they were doing that was illegal, they didn't focus on the investigation and how they were caught.

It was all just happening, the vast majority of films would skip through most parts much quicker and expand massively on a clever investigation to catch him, or focus on the crime side and how they were doing things illegally, how they were hiding stuff. They probably explained the money laundering in the most detail but that was the most boring part of the story.

I don't know, I just found vast portions of it lacking. For such a long film it really wasn't a thriller, a investigative film, crime drama, personal drama, comedy, it wasn't really anything.

There were funny moments and some of the "crazy" crap they got up to was funny, particularly the Lemon's, but meh. All the speeches he gave in the office as well just seemed rubbish to me and completely uninspiring.

Also fairly sure in terms of cinematography/directing there were a few really poorly done scenes in terms of editing/putting them together. Not really sure what I'd rate it, 6/10 if they cut it down to 90-100 mins losing all the stuff that simply took time and offered nothing. At 3 hours with no primary storyline, no complexity to the story, I think it's a bit of a joke.

Second film that, Wolf and Hustle in which it's all style, throw in some boobs, hope no one notices the "crime" was awful, the investigative angle, was awful, and the general story telling was awful in both. THey are both like really pretty tame biographical films of people that aren't likeable, who you don't want to win. Again like Hustle, I didn't care about his family, his personal relationships at all.

Agree totally with you. Watched it last night and thought some of the editing was terrible. It would have been a good film if it had of been 90mins long. OK we get the point of the drugs and the hookers and the excess but filling 3hrs with it is not telling a story.

There was some very funny scenes though.

The Quaalude and Ferrari was good

On a side note...Hustle was crap.

Seen a few recently:

The Lego Movie - 6/10.

It was quite novel, the way the characters moved, in a lego like fashion and the settings and backdrops were magical. But the story was a bit lacking with little emotional involvement. Enjoyable, but not a classic animation film. I suppose it never was going to be though, to be fair.

The Grand Budapest Hotel - 7/10.

Another enjoyable but not great film but it seems that every man and his dog were in this one. It had a unique style to it with some artfully done settings. It was funny, but never laugh out loud hilarious. Arguably the funniest joke came right at the very end, but it didn't rescue the film.

The fast an... I mean Need for Speed.

Parts of the film are unbelievable and what plot there is a very tried and tested one and nothing new is introduced. The characters are all 2 dimensional and the acting is about the same. A couple moments of attempted humour but they don't really work in my opinion.

I think the film deserves two scores:

Firstly as a flim that has any sort of plot or plot development, believable characters etc. the film is terrible: 2/10.

However if you go in expecting the above then the film is full of some lovely car pr0n and some very nice sounding v8's: 8/10.

Just got back from 300 rise of an empire (3d) 8.5/10

It was good, the 3d utterly pointless like many films, maybe 1 scene where it worked appreciably.
Acting: good enough/decent. Some hammy lines but fits well.
Women deffo steal the better scenes in the film, the male lead is average in performance and stature.
The action is good.... as expected
- i love classical history and the arty bullet time stuff of 300 .. if you liked the original then the film is a no brainer.

Reservoir Dogs - Still a bloody good film IMO, a great crime/robbery movie when you don't really see it. Good acting, dialogue and directing. A must for any movie fan. Love the soundtrack too, got the cd in my car.

World War Z, damn. Never seen a zombie film as crazy as this. So violent and fast. Plus all the body dropping. Crazy watching things go from calm and peaceful to nightmare in minutes. Same for the plane.

It makes most of Dawn of the Dead look somewhat tame. Apart from the pregnancy part. Some really gross scenes in that as well.

Gone baby, gone. 8/10

Pretty good to be fair. I've seen all the Ben Affliek films now, Argo and The Town, and they are all pretty good watchable entertainment. They do kinda feel like siting through a GTA4 session, not that thats a bad thing at all.

Lots of twists and turns some obvious some not but a "pleasing" ending.
