What film did you watch last night?

interstellar. flippin immense. i was a bit wary beforehand because i usually find christopher nolan films are overrated but this certainly is not. i can't be arsed to post in the main thread about it because i'm a simpleton who can accept it for what is: damned good science-FICTION. :p

+1 totally agree, with this genre you can't take it too literally

Guardians of the Galaxy

Was OK, but after seeing all the glowing reviews, I sort of expected more. The second act felt a bit messy with the introduction of too many characters at once and I didn't find it that interesting. The action improved and pacing increased in the third.

7/10

Ah the main thread isn't such a scary place. It's a fun space to throw around ideas and theories.

Unfortunately you get a few Luddites who try to spoil the fun... just ignore those :)

The Mist - 7/10

Seen it before, but still enjoyed it. Forgot how epic and messed-up the ending was :D

+1 8/10
Classic one of the better Stephen King novel movie remakes. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Although I wished they continued with the story and seen more of the things in the mist and thief origin

Interstellar - 8.5/10

Flipping brilliant, lost me for about 10 min towards the end where I felt it strayed too far away from science and jumped into the realm of fantasy. Otherwise a brilliant and very believable sci-fi epic.

Interstellar 9/10

A film about a man's illicit love for his young daughter and the lengths he'll go to so he can wait till she get's a bit older, which ultimately fail spectacularly.

Loved it, the space effects were stunning especially the wormhole section and felt that the story held together quite nicely. There was a lot of 2001 to it and an obvious in-joke about it from one of the robots early on.

Just about ****ed myself when the airlock blew though, you knew it was coming, but holy crap the speaker system in the cinema was loud

out of 5.

Not a patch on the original.

2001 - A Space Odyssee

2/10

I watched this after the Interstellar simile comments. I don't know whether I'm too old to appreciate this, having grown up with better visuals, acting, lines and perhaps the basic concepts had been explored by other films I'd seen. But I found the acting terrible, the lines cliche'ingly bad, the storyline far too predictable and the cinematography just too 'dated' to be enjoyed. I can imagine this film would have been incredible and groundbreaking once upon a time - but for me, unfortunately, it was just old and very boring.

Can't believe people find 2001's visuals "dated". Still one of the most visually impressive films I've ever seen, no CGI rubbish. The Blu-ray is breathtaking.

Clearly you didn't pick up on numerous suggestions and underlying things which made it such a masterpiece. The visuals are also still fantastic, especially the blu ray, my local Vue is showing it at the end of the month which I hope to go and see! If you want an explanation of all the 'hidden' messages, just youtube it, there's a bunch of videos.

Your "2/10" offends me :p:D;)

So I've just seen The Imitation Game.

One of the best films I've seen in a long while. Quintessentially British wit and humour which is at times laugh out loud funny. It's a bit of an emotional rollercoaster which ultimately ends in tragedy but it does show what Turing's work actually meant to the war effort.

I must admit, I left feeling that the world was a lot poorer without Turing and that an injustice has occurred. There was a talk with the director Morten Tyldum before the film started and he said something that stuck with me. He said that Turing was recently pardoned for his homosexuality, but perhaps the more important question is whether Turing would have pardoned us?

10/10.

Nightcrawler 6/10. A bit of a come down after seeing interstellar last week but it was a decent film. A tad slow at times and once the main story started happening it all of a sudden ended right when it was starting to get interesting. Average.

I actually preferred Nightcrawler to Interstellar. Gyllenhaal performance actually stood out, in comparison to the not to special performances in the latter film.
