What film did you watch last night?

Lolita, the 1997 version. It was pretty good, but I wonder how well it managed to capture what happened in the book. I read it about 6 years ago and don't really remember it all that well - I'll have to re-read it.

Fight Club

David Fincher is one of the most underrated directors of our generation.

9/10

Fight Club, Seven and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is a pretty good CV.

Loved Alien 3 but I didn't think much of this other ones. I turned Fight Club off after half an hour or so and guessed what was happening. Was the audience not supposed to spot Brad Pitt during those bits? Seven wasn't so great either, seen that end coming a mile off too. Haven't seen Benjamin Button, doesn't appeal to me. :)

Fireball
So so martial arts movie featuring a whole host of nobodies.
The camera constantly moved in a circle around the fighters whilst zooming in and out, add quick fire editing and you could've chucked Grandma in there and made it look like she was competent at muay thai.

Superb performance by Jeremy Irons. It's interesting to compare the 1997 film to the Stanley Kubrick film aswell - the 1997 film is more true to the source material in my mind, and does almost portray Humbert Humbert in a different light to how you might have thought of the relationship between the Lolita and him before.

Nix can you edit for spoilers before you post about a film, I might take from what you just said something and in turn it might spoil that film and I really want to see it.

/emo.

:p

Nothing you wouldn't get from reading a quick abstract on the back. ;)

Un Prophet (A Prophet)

Pretty graphic and dark all the way through, but very well done. Good watch but perhaps too long, meh, I "liked" it.

8/10

Fight Club. A brilliant existential thriller, in which Edward Norton's brutally masculine character dominates an effeminate Brad Pitt.

Despite its heavy-handed homoeroticism, the movie is a powerful celebration of contemporary heterosexual manhood. Trapped within his corporate prison, the protagonist slowly undergoes a shocking transformation into the ultimate Nietzschean Übermensch and destroys society in a final act of triumphant nihilism.

Meat Loaf makes a brief appearance as the bisexual Mormon who has lost his testicles to cancer (some extrapolation is required here). Helena Bonham Carter is also present in certain scenes.

Days of Thunder.

Great film, the sound track is totally inspiring.

Another one of those, 'Tom Cruise' it never fails to be anything but good film of the 90's.

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer

Not really my sort of film but there was nothing else on. Alba made it worthwhile though :D.

Frost/Nixon

A very entertaining film. I like the style of using interviews to build the story up.

An interesting subject matter also helped this film kick on at a decent pace.

Watched Up in the air last night.

Thought it was very enjoyable in a "George Clooney plays an incredibly handsome yet slightly flawed succesful businessman" kind of way. :p

No really it was good, all the performances wer good but i didnt believe Jason bateman's character at all, he just seemed too young.

8/10 definately worth a watch.

Aliens (aka Alien II)

8.5/10 - Classic build up, not so much as the first film but still a must see.

"They mostly come out at night.... mostly."

I watched 'Juno' again for about the 4th time in two weeks.

I have totally fallen in love with this film :) And the soundtrack is just so fitting and awesome.

Ellen Page is definitely the best young female actor going right now.
