What film did you watch last night?

Lucy 1/10

I thought it was a decent film and would give it 7/10. Maybe I am using more than 10% of my cerebral capacity, but I thought it all made sense.

Instead while on the phone she turned on some electrical stuff, and changed her hair style briefly.... the single most boring and poorly done "special powers" film I think I've ever seen.

I think we watched different films...

Mockingjay Part 1, Slow but enjoyable. Really should have watched Catching fire just before it as I was a little, who?why?where? for the first half hour :D 6.5/10

Guardians of the Galaxy, highly rated by all, some have said the best marvel film!.. I thought it was far from it. No idea why Imdb has it so high still. 6/10 for me.

Mockingjay part 1.

Thought it was very average, didn't think it was as good aa the previous installments, has to be a 6.5. I get that it's a part one, and it's setting up for the finale. But we all know it's so Hollywood and get another 200 million :p.

Not much seemed to happen at all, and when it ended, it just felt like it was getting started.

It was literally a case of mope about then rescue prisoners lol.

watched Guardians of the galaxy again - still a solid film 8/10
hunger games (first one) - not seen it before, the first 2 thirds were good but then it got bored of itself - still, 7/10
tucker and dale vs evil - loved it 8/10
the seeker the dark is rising - garbage, boring, terrible casting 2/10

Watched a few over the weekend

Chef - 7 / 10

Billed as a comedy, we didn't find it that funny, but it was a decent feel good movie

Frank 6 / 10

Dramatisation based on the character of Frank Sidebottom. One of Mark Kermodes favourite films of the year....I guess that's why he's a film critic. It was odd.
.
.
Now...the following couple of films are more in the Sharknado category of movie making. I'll still mark them out of 10, but with an upper limit of 5 being the best it could be....since they are terrible films to start with! :D

Zombeavers 4 / 10

Yes, they beavers and yes they are zombies! Terrible acting, terrible animatronics on the beavers...but it was entertaining, in that so bad it's, well no, not good, but not so bad kinda way.

Black Sheep 4.5 / 10

NZ film about....Mutant 'zombie' sheep! Same quality of acting as above, but with some better sfx, and equally as entertaining.

How to train your dragon 2 :o

I thought the first one was a really good family film. I wasn't expecting the sequel to be as good but in my opinion it was better than the 1st film.

8/10 - solid

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

Tad disappointed with this if im honest. I was just expecting so much more from the trailer. CGI was good in places, but at points it seemed pretty ropey. Some apes looked noticeably better then others. Storyline was pretty week as well. It picked up near the end but not enough to save it.

6-10

8/10 - solid

Get rid of that :o

How to train your dragon gains fairly high praise around these parts :p

Loved the 2nd one as well :)

Frank 5/10
Really looking forward to this considering the cast, but it was just dull and odd for odd's sake. The score of 5 was solely for the last scene which was wonderful

St. Vincent 7/10
Bill Murray on fine form as a grumpy old man. Some good laughs, but very much a drama veering into schmaltz here and there. Melissa McCarthy (!) trumps Bill Murray in his own film though - great performance.

The Babadook 7/10
The trailer made it out to be a Halloween frightfest, but it was more a psychological thriller in the mould of The Others, which is a favourite anyway.

Starred Up 9/10

Brilliant. Very tense, explicit, heavy duty prison movie with great dialogue as much as violence. Extremely watchable from start to finish.

Metro

Awesome 90's action film with Eddie Murphy. Very underrated, the IMDB score for this is criminal.

Solid 6.7/10 from me.

Predestination (2014)
10/10

This is more than a Time Cop sc-fi film as there was little emphasis on time travel. I'd probably class this as a mystery which is delivers on so many levels (performance, plot, cinematics etc)

This is a film I need to watch probably a couple of times just to understand the mind **** plot twist towards the end. I was thoroughly captivated throughout.

Honestly read the IMDB reviews as those users can put their review of the film in a more eloquent way.

Based on the short story book called "All you zombies" I can see Predestination being a huge hit for those who like Time Travel sci-fi without the spoonfeeding thrown in and a film that is very clever and makes you think.

Ethan Hawke - I'm in. Got this weird thing for Ethan Hawke even if he is pretty much always plays similar roles.

Hah.

I've been a Hawke fan ever since his performance with July Delpy in Before Sunrise. He's been getting better roles ever since and it's welcome to see genuine talent get utilised in these kind of roles.
