What film did you watch last night?

Prisoners 2013 - 7.5/10

Entertaining and chilling. Reminds me that there are some sick people out there.

About to watch The Green Mile.

Salmon Fishing in the Yemen. Much better than I expected. It was definitely helped by the fact it had Ewan McGregor in the lead role, who managed the tone of charming naïveté vey well, where a lesser actor would have gone overboard and spoiled it.

Zero Theorem

Weird ass story, but I loved the setting, world and characters. Also have a mad crush on Melanie Thierry now.

Definitely a mega-marmite film, but I enjoyed it!

7/10

Indy Jones and the Crystal Skull 0/10

I watched the first 5 minutes or so, and deleted it to preserve the memory of the Indy films I know and love. I'd seen enough to know how awful it was going to be.

Harrison was much, much too old to do another one. And the setup at the beginning was just plain terrible. So I pressed eject :p

It is awful, seriously awful.

Amazing Spiderman 2 - 8/10

Quite enjoyed it, although definitely felt too long with a lot of unnecessary filler throughout. Quite moving towards the end though, considering the way character deaths in these sorts of films are usually just given the 30 second "Oh they're gone now" treatment it was refreshing to see it handled properly. Certainly gave me a lump in my throat.

World War Z

I really enjoyed some parts of it, but found other parts really disjointed. Some really good effects and scenes, but a weak plot that never really gets going. Really poor ending too.

I'd give it 7/10

That was an abomination of a movie... absolutely awful and cringeworthy on every level.

I watched
The Hobbit : The Battle of 5 Armies
I am going to buck the trend here and say I very much enjoyed it.
It completed the tale as told by Jackson, his own tale based upon Tolkien's works.
I liked it, didn't mind the mushy stuff, certain scenes (Wizard's Battle) were superb, and it tied the whole thing together well.
7or 8 out of 10.

Lol... for me out of the above...

I love Zero Theorem, one of the better movies I've seen in years... 9/10

Lucy... I guess that only makes enough sense if you've seen similar things yourself through the use of psychedelics... I liked it... 8/10

Indiana Jones & Crystal Skull... 6/10

World War Z... 2/10... terrible carp

And yet you lot liked the abysmal Interview... we clearly have very different tastes :o

It's such a shame because the book is very different and much, much better.

Kung Fu Jungle
Donnie Yen in another city-kicker flick. This time the fight choreography is stunning, the sound effects too as were the cinematics. Excellent camera work from scene to scene and even though the story is the usual predictable affair, most people won't be watching this kind of film for the script but instead to watch people get their asses handed to them, which there is plenty of. 8/10.

Fury
Thoroughly enjoyed it, even if I didn't understand 70% of what they were saying haha. The artillery fire audio effects were truly remarkable and made the movie experience all the more enjoyable. Pitt on form and supporting cast weren't all fresh faces either which was nice. 8/10.

Stonehearst Asylum
It was OK, predictable to the most extent but saved by the ever wonderful Kate Beckinsale. The things one would do  - 7/10 otherwise 5/10 without her.

Naww she had too many cloths on to save it, slap her in a pvc cat suite then your talking

That's the beauty of media and individual interpretation.

(I for one thought Indy & crystal skull was absolute rubbish, World War Z was much better).

I Origins
7.5/10

Good, interesting story. Kept us entertained throughout.

The Equalizer

At around 2 and a quarter hours it's a bit of a slog. Bugger all happens in the first 30 mins other than the back story and set up for the storyline which could have taken 10 mins

There are some pretty cheesy bits and the real action is somewhat lacking in the main - overall pretty far fetched from the actual story through to Denzil's deadly skills

Not to bad to turn your brain off and digest but still a tad long - 5/10

White man can't jump

Never seen it before so figured I'll give it a watch while it was on Comedy Central. Not a great film by any means but a decent entertainment flick. Got to love woody harrilson and Wesley snipes.

6/10

Godfather. Such a great movie. Interesting how subtle and understated Al Pacino was in that compared to his very loud and extrovert acting in later movies. To my mind, he conveys more charisma and fear when not barking all the time.

Godfather II is on tomorrow night at 12.10am and Godfather III on Saturday. A godfather weekend for me. :)
