What film did you watch last night?

Under The Skin 8/10

Nervy, disturbing and oblique with some absolutely cracking visual effects and a great discordant soundtrack. Hilarious juxtaposition of ScarJo and Weegies.

Went to bed thinking about it and woke up still thinking about it, which is always a good sign.

Controversial, but I honestly believe that in the future, that is the one people will look back on as the best of the trilogy.

I actually thought the dark knight rises was an absolutely abysmal film. I-M-O pretty much everything about it was terrible. A generous 5/10. I'm prepared to be slaughtered now by the fanboys :p

Got to agree it would have been good until the very end when the bomb was detonated in the water, it blew not that far off land and Gotham in the film was basically at sea level. The entire place would had flooded.

Avatar Extended Special Edition 9/10

brilliant film-making and nuts and bolts story-telling. Love it.

Haha. Each to their own!

Birdman!

Didn't like it, however I think it might be an occasion where I am wrong, if things aren't subjective.
The acting is very theatrical, and in your face down your throat, but at half way I wanted it to end. The effort for the camera work, and most probably the actual acting will be considered fantastic by many and it's an ambitious idea. Just not for me.

There wasn't much hype over it anyway and it smelled like a stinker to me immediately. Good to see my senses didn't disappoint :p

Plus everywhere was New York. The thing I loved about 89/Returns Batman was, there was nothing that resembled real places. It was a place known as Gotham City itself.

Saw The Theory of Everything last night.

Absolute 9/10, very ambitious but amazingly well made. I was pretty much weeping for most of the walk home, though I can't really tell why. Emotionally stirring in a very good way. Massively impressed with Redmayne, he was incredible.

Elysium 6/10

As with the brilliant District 9, Blomkamp does a good job making the special effects feel meaty (sometimes literally!) and there is some attempt at social commentary but overall this a much weaker film with largely two dimensional characters and a cliché ridden plot.

Nightcrawler - 8/10. Solid performance from Jake Gyllenhaal. Quite unnerving there's people like that out and about right now.

Coherence - 8/10. A group of people at a dinner party fall foul of Schrodinger's Cat when a comet goes over and their alternate selves start showing up. No-name cast (apart from Homeland's Max) but a really well done head**** of a script.

Youth In Revolt - 3/10. The Michael Cera boat certainly left me on the dock. Great cast, great intro credits but I want to wring the guy's neck, especially if he's sporting a moustache.

Watching this on Saturday, I know it's going to get to me because the trailer had me choked a little each time I watched it.

That was offset by the trailer for Jupiter Ascending afterwards with the actor playing Hawking as a cardboard cut out bad guy.

Finally got round to watching Babadook. It's been so hyped, I was expecting a lot and was assuming I'd be disappointed.

Totally wrong. Brilliant brilliant film. One of the best horrors in a loooooong time.

Kind of had a vibe of what would have happened if Kubrick hadn't made the Shining, but made Evil Dead instead.
