What film did you watch last night?

killing me softly - very well made and very well acted but not particularly interesting. 6/10
submarine - pretty good, some good moments but a bit generic, maybe 7/10

Exodus: Gods and Kings

I dunno... Probably just easier to give a brief list of likes and dislikes.

Liked:
Visuals
Dem crocs ;)

Disliked:
The way it dealt with the transition of time, or rather the way it didn't deal with it...
God
Parting of the sea was crap (that's not a spoiler - it's the tale of Moses after all)
Bit boring tbh
Lacking in 'star quality' and erm, drama I guess

Verdict: Gimme the old skool Ten Commandments any day.

Yeah sounds about right for Exodus. I did keep hoping Jesse would cook up some crystal meth for Moses to make it more interesting.

Interstellar 8/10.

1080p on a 55" TV, the visuals are spectacular, very well made movie, plot was good but I'm confused by the ending, also the start of the movie, they never explained what happened to the earth to make them seek an alternative planet for reproduction.

Just finished Interstellar, hmmm think I need to watch this again, maybe tomorrow night to work out what happened.

Battleship 2/10

Worst film I've seen in 2015. I suspect it knows it's a terrible film and isn't trying very hard to be anything else.

It gets 1 bonus star for reminding me of Crysis after the aliens turned up. I really like Crysis after the aliens turned up.

Everything else was abysmal. I knew it was going to be. I made myself watch it because it's sci-fi and I'm a suck for that :p

It adds fuel to the fire of my theory that all Liam Neeson films suck ass.

Lego Movie - 9/10. Really enjoyed it, great humour, fun story, some good characters and looked excellent. Amazing attention to detail and it really felt like you were watching actual Lego models/bricks a lot of the time.

For me, the human part made it, it transformed it into a truly deep and thought provoking film.

Which LEGO movie did you see? I must have seen the other one.

Agree with the other poster that the human bits (nearly) ruined the film. They were not deep, or thought provoking. Just the usual Hollywood cliches being rolled out for the umpteenth time.

When will they learn that films do not need to have some kind of moral in them?

Edge if tomorrow, despite it having tom cruise in it, thought it's a really good alien invasion/scifi film.
No surprises or anything, but a good watch 7/10

Pacific Rim - 3.5 / 10

Saw this for the second time and it's still as bad. Terrible dialogue, ridiculous contrived plot, great cgi that in no way redeems an awful film

Locke - 7.5 / 10

Great film. Not going to be everyones cup of tea as there's no action and it's all narrative. The whole story takes place in car drive down the motorway with a guy trying to sort his unwinding life by a series of phone calls.

Great performance by Tom Hardy (even with the dodgy welsh accent :p) Not many people could have pulled this off and is testament to his talent.

Ida.

I was a bit torn about the whole "black and white and 4:3 aspect ratio" thing, and was wondering if it was a bit pretentious, but I did enjoy the actual film. Quite a minimalistic and "clean" film. 8/10.

Second best exotic marigold hotel - I haven't seen the first so can't compare and went in with zero expectations. Due to the number of characters the films focus goes between each one quickly and never really develops any ot them and IMO some of the characters individual stories could have been cut entirely. However, it's no Oscar winner but I found it entertaining and enjoyable nonetheless - 6/10.

Interstellar (9/10)
Thought this was truly fantastic, a movie well deserving of it's run time. Very emotional at times and the effects were fantastic. The whole time relativity thing is still haunting to think about.

The Imitation Game (8/10)
Not a film I'd typically choose to watch, but thoroughly enjoyed it. The acting was superb, especially Cumberbatch and Knightley. Almost shed a tear at the end, though was disappointed to read on IMDB that a lot of the film is fictionalised and some key factors in the movie not being entirely accurate

Monsters: Dark Continent (5/10)
Could have well been a standalone war movie as the actual monsters had no real involvement in the story. Reasonable acting and enough story to keep me watching, but a terrible waste of potential material.

There's a micro-organism called the Blight, it's effectively killed off all crops except corn and in turn the microorganism feeds off nitrogen which is changing the composition of our atmosphere which will effect other plant life and life around it, including us.

They had an expositive scene about it! :P
