What film did you watch last night?

Interstellar

Now the last section confused me at one particular bit and only by reading up on what actually happened cleared it up.

The bit at the end where he sacrifices himself to allow her to get to the last planet. He's in his ship getting pulled into the black hole, the ship then starts getting ripped to pieces and he ejects.

Now everything tell's me that he's going to continue getting sucked into the black hole and ripped a new one. But reading about what happened he gets pulled into the thing surrounding / keeping the worm hole open.

how the hell does he go from his ship getting ripped apart to ejecting and flying into the worm hole thing ??

I watched Edge of Tomorrow. I'd alreaady read the book it's based on All You Need Is Kill. The basic premise is the same but the plots markedly different. I liked it Cruise is good and they gave it as much depth as the repeating plot device allows in the time. Probably 7/10

Thee book is 9/10 and I've started reading it again as a consequence of watching the movies, and loving it.

Pacific Rim - 3.5 / 10

Couldn't disagree more. Pacific Rim 9/10.

There's giant robots and they punch giant monster IN THE FACE. If this doesn't sell you on this movie then it's probably not going to be your cup of tea. I think the most striking thing about it is how it shows how much better summer blockbuster movies could and should be.

The premise is, of course, utterly nonsensical. But if you can buy into the idea that giant, humanoid, robots are the way to fight giant, implausible, monsters coming out of the sea then it's a thoroughly joyous movie.

I liked Battleship.

But Pacific Rim was great.
How can you not like the fight in the middle of the movie between the 2 monsters vs 3 big robots (who get beaten). The old fashioned bot is then released and this thing slams those 2 monsters. In one scene the robot rips out the tongue of one of the monster. Absolutely loved it.

The best thing about Pacific Rim is the sheer scale and weight of things. Everything is massive and slow and powerful and hefty. The fight scenes are something that Transformers can only dream of.

Heh, I didn't think my score for Pacific Rim would be so contentious! :D

Don't get me wrong, I love Sci-Fi, I love epic scale CGI fests and I enjoy plenty of B-Movie cheesy movies, so I was looking forward to Pacific Rim and it should have ticked all the boxes (as should have Battleship....another terrible movie)

Whereas I think films like Skyline, Independance Day, 2012, Starship Troopers etc are great.

This is why I gave it another watch, thinking I must have not just been in the right mood when watching it first time. But for some reason it just turns me off.

I think if I'm watching something like Sharknado (so bad its good :p) you expect bad acting and cheesy dialogue, but in a AAA film like Pacific Rim, to get that level of dialogue is criminal! :D

Blazing Saddles

First time I have watched this, really enjoyed it.

Godzilla

Thought it was ok but its just another giant monster/robot movie trashing a city to bits, all been done before.

Tommy Boy

Kept seeing this on netflix and finally watched it, really good. Chris Farley:(

Agreed, pacific rim was great from an entertainment perspective. Plot wise, no. But who cares?

I just REALLY wish they'd left the two ridiculous scientists out. They are terrible characters. It's one of the reasons I've not re-watched it since the cinema - purely because I can't stand those two.

Yeah, I could agree with that. I did my best to ignore them at the time, lest they spoil it for me.

The Hobbit: Battle of Five Armies

Have to say that I really enjoyed it. Sure the battle goes on for a bit, but a battle of five armies isn't going to be over in a flash is it?
Sound/Visuals were great for the most part and there weren't too many dull moments, though there were a couple of cringy lines :D

Without being too picky, I do have to question the quality/effectiveness of Orc armour and how easy it is to take down enemies with far greater size, strength and numbers, but hey ho...
