What film did you watch last night?

Terminator Salvation

Very disappointed with this. Suppose it always carried high-ish expectations with it, but it not only failed to meet those, but also fall way below the basic standards expected. The whole story has way too many touches from Hollywood producers and riddled with your typical action films cliches. While I did expect some, there were too many for me to swallow there. It started off very promisingly but it was a quick slide downwards from there and end action scene just felt like drivel to me and the ending just unnecessary.

Also while it may have been an intention, to me Bale just felt like a secondary character in the film, but a very overacted one at that. At times it seemed like he forgot that he wasn't on the Batman set too and was just speaking in the over the top deep voice at all times.

Saying that I did love the action scenes in the first 2 thirds of the film and even more so the audio, but still as a fan I would have to give it a 5.5/10 as expectations weren't THAT high after the third film in the series and this was well casted high budget reboot sequel that just didn't deliver.

Infernal Affairs. A competent crime thriller in need of more thrills!

Tony Leung steals the show as police officer 陳永仁. Eric Tsang and Gordon Lam provide adequate performances as 韓琛 and 林國平 respectively. Look for Elva Hsiao in the surprisingly minor role of "Mary."

Two sequels to follow.

:)

Then watch the Departed and watch how much Scorasee's version not only a remake but almost a shot for shot copy.

So I have heard.

I actually got hold of The Departed last year, but have refrained from watching it because I want to see the Infernal Affairs trilogy first.

:)

District nine - watched it a few months ago, have to say it's the worst movie ive ever seen. The acting and story where pathetic. Ive seen some poor films just this easily is the worst!

Sharpe's Challenge

not as good as previous Sharpe but still worth the watch. Plus I really like the theme tune.

Though Kings and Tyrants come and go,
A Soldiers life is all I know,
I'll live to Fight another day,
Over the Hills & Far away...
O'er the hills & o'er the mian,
Through Flanders, Portugal & Spain,
King George Commands and we Obey,
Over the hills and Far Away...

Edge of Darkness...the new Mel Gibson movie...have to say another dire movie...just didnt have much going for it and Mel is getting a bit old now..plus his new england accent ie Boston accent just doesnt do it for me...4/10 for me.

Funny, I watched District 9 last night and loved it. Something about the setting and the South African accents! I did keep thinking of Alin nation which I haven't seen (and don't intend to watch again) for 15+ years. I loved the situation, obviously, as with most films, there are some amazing coincidences and whatnot but very enjoyable. 4/5

Fantastic Mr Fox
The film started out really well, the style and dialog worked really well together, then it gradually slipped into being just another animation, loosing the intial style of movement in the animation and the language became almost Americanised. Overall the film is good and worth watching again, its just a shame they could not keep the pace of the initial first 30-45 minutes.

Dark Star, it was only £3.99 and took me back to the old days when I saw it on the cinema with Assault on Precinct 13 as a John Carpenter double bill.

Bombed out in space with a spaced out bomb :)

13 Tzameti. A dark philosophical commentary on the plight of immigrant workers in post-Grévy France!

Shot in black and white for political reasons. Contains graphic scenes of roof maintenance.

The Combination. A shocking tale of lust and violence in the misogynistic world of Australia's notoriously racist Lebanese community!

From paris with love.

1 star reviews from just about every corner. You can pan it as a critic because it's a film with little substance and just about zero depth in every quarter.. but as a movie go'er with nothing better to do on a monday night looking for a ride for an hour or two.. it's a solid 3 from me.

If you like travolta doing his thing, you'll love it... not as sharp as swordfish, more blunt, but still with those clever twists in the dialogue and the events to match, it breaks close.

One note on a critical point.. some of the chase scenes are quite nice. They do the short sharp shots (think resident evil) with the person chasing running past a camera angle with some great soft toned lighting in the night scenes.

Aside from that, it has style and lots of it... zip substance on the flip...

Go see if you like JT, once he shows up the film just doesn't stop:)

The fact that the poster had the tagline "Two agents, one city no merci." was enough to make me want to kill everyone involved in making that film. There's no way in hell I would ever watch it.
