What film did you watch last night?

I'm going to have to watch this Interstellar one of these days and see what all the fuss is about... It's on NowTV so I'll get to it sometime soon.

Jupiter Ascending (2015)

Initially I found the style a bit offputting and was tempted to switch off after 20 minutes although Sean Bean and the narrative pulled me along. It had some good ideas that were rushed in places. The scale of the film was grander than the new Star Wars however and it even had more engaging action scenes. I would have preferred a grainier film style as the digital video look gave it the appearance of a Doctor Who episode. I'm knocking a point off because of Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis's performances, who made it seem like a Step Up film in space.

4/10

Me too

Watched star wars yesterday, solid star wars film, beats 1 2 3 out of the water. Could have been better, not going to be overly judgemental until I see the next two. Plot holes galore in terms of physics, but we come to expect that with star wars, some nice referencing of the originals, some comedy elements. A good death.
6/10

Sicario

An idealistic FBI agent is enlisted by a government task force to aid in the escalating war against drugs at the border area between the U.S. and Mexico. Decent film, would watch again.

Transporter 3

Pretty similar to the first two, not getting me on the edge of my seat. Although I wanted to watch it before the 4th, hoping the 7 year gap between them and it being a 2015 release will mean the 4th one is better.

Why? because he likes it, a concept they seems to escape you grasp.

This makes post makes no sense.. :p

Reasoning, is that a new forum rule? Just because you have a problem with it then you must provide valid reasons why you dared to enjoy a film and have an opinion

I was interested.

Is it a new forum rule not being able to ask someone to elaborate?

Wind it in...

finally i pulled the cellophane off my die hard quadrilogie blu ray set i had since last year so i thought id go for a marathon die hard day (cant do much else laid on sofa with ankle ligament damage) so here goes

Die Hard 9/10

defo a classic, can never get board of this film, everyones prob seen it

never forget watchin this on itv many moons ago when they dubbed really badly, when yippe ki yay mother ****er was yippe ki yay kemosabe with kemosabe been in a much deeper totally different voice

Die Hard 2 8/10

not as good as the first but still totally watchable for sure

still find it hard to take the grim reaper from bill and teds film seriously

Die Hard with a Vengeance 8/10

still good goin even on the third film..Sam L Jackson defo helps keeping it running but kinda hated Jeremy Irons dodgy accents

Live Free or Die Hard/Die Hard 4.0 6/10

dunno if i was gettin restless at this point or i just got annoyed by that squeaky matt character in it...kinda reminds me of the young john conner high pitch "there gonna blow you away" in t2 but never the less stil enjoyed it but defo not a patch on the first

then i went to bed

on a side note i tried to watch A Good Day to Die Hard a few months ago but turned it off after 20mins...mite give that one another go at somepoint but not in no rush

Why?

Genuine question...it's a bold statement to make without posting your reasoning...:)

After doing some reading up I understand the film better, and could actually appreciate the terminology used in the film, the first time I watched it, i understood parts but not all of it, now i understand all of it. Along with the acting and the scenery it all fits together nicely. :)

Just in case you're still genuinely interested in some of the reasoning as to the "why" Interstellar is an exceptionally good film in mine and many other people's eyes, the following review covers the vast majority of what I got out of it (and possibly the guy you asked originally) and a whole lot more besides :

Of course you could have looked at a review or two yourself to see why others liked it to get the rough idea ;)

It was a 9/10 for me regardless.

Spectre

Me and the missus normally go and see any new Bond film out around this time of year so off to the flicks we duly went...

The opening sequence gave us high hopes for the film but it was a red herring. The script and story telling didn't do anything for either of us at all which left the few decent actors in it looking decidedly third rate. Gone were the witty one liners as was any semblance of a decent bond girl. The action felt watered down and unimaginative, with the possible exception of a plane chase and a fight on a train. To round it all off, the main baddie felt about as menacing as the little kid at school who was always getting his head flushed down the toilet by all the bigger boys.

4/10 - See me after school.

I blame Sam Mendes - He's a rubbish director, he is with Bond films anyway. He's done 2 & they are both trash.

Shame cause I think Daniel Craig is a very good Bond.

Optimistic for sure. Transporters were good films if you just enjoy Jason Statham, without him in the equation they would be sub par action films. So I would not hold your breath for the 4th being any good.

On another note: Strippers vs Zombies, 2.5 was a generous score. Not even sure it deserves a 1/10 it really was that bad - as in, you expect to be awful and still somehow end up disappointed.

Robbie Collin...To insecure to risk his red carpet and A list access...:p

How can you give Spectre 4/10 and Robbie gives it 5 stars?

Robbie Collin Block Buster of the Summer

Oh dear..This guy really knows his oninons

Then use him as any kind of justification for an argument?

Corn fed Cinema

Nolan’s biggest spectacle – and biggest disappointment

Thats why I tend not to read reviews...Thats why I was interested in peoples views who don't have an agender of any kind and are just posting on an internet forum.

But you didn't get an opinion from the guy you asked so I gave you mine which was likely to be very close to his. It just so happened that the forth review I found about it pretty much matched my thoughts - that's it. That's the funny thing about professional journalists - they tend to have betters ways of putting points across than us plebs.

Having now just read his review on Spectre that you linked I can only agree with you - he doesn't know his onions (in regards to that film I feel). But I'm 52 and no fan-boy or follower of anyone at all - I'm sorry if you thought I did. I don't read The Telegraph at all either - you seem to know more about it's workings than I ever will so you have me at a disadvantage there. There's also absolutely no 'argument' of any kind here, honestly, you've really lost me on that one as well!? It was a single link to a review that matched my thoughts *sheesh*.

So anyway - you now know my thoughts about the film, what were yours? I take it that you didn't enjoy it at all for some reason - maybe you didn't like Memento, The Prestige, Inception, The Dark Knight or some of his others either?

Die Hard 4.0 gets a 4/10 at best from me, so I don't think you were just getting tired... it's really not a very good film.

Willis's character is good at fire-fights with terrorists and military types... so why they put him up against a hacker whose main weapon is a computer... well, it was never going to end well. Die Hard is an action film from a previous era, and trying to "update" it with a modern antagonist just didn't work.

I really enjoyed Interstellar.

It easily passed my "how many times did you look at your watch" test, which was none.

On top of which I found the story to be intriguing, the performances to be strong, the science even somewhat logical.

It's a movie that has ambitions in spades, something that a lot of movie lacks these days. I saw it twice at the cinema and enjoyed it just as much the second time round.

My only issue with Interstellar was that some key aspects were glossed over, but I can understand why given that the films already pretty long. That guy left on his own for all those years, for example, is a film in of itself (see Moon and The Martian).

But like you, I really enjoyed it.

I could sit here too and go "but this" or "that can't be right" but that could potentially ruining my experience. Because during the 2 hours + running time I really enjoyed it, it would be a lie to say I didn't, and although I could see some flaws afterward, those flaws weren't in my mind during the movie so it didn't spoil it.

Chris Nolan is sticking out some awesome works... I liked it also :)

I thoroughly enjoyed the depiction of a small cross-section of a black hole... I've seen vaguely similar things myself.
